SL said this was the biggest position of concern on the team (the DB's), and we just lost yet another DB, this one with some starting experience. SMH

I'm guessing he'll be buried at Auburn on the QB depth chart but will find a spot as a TE and WC QB. Malzahn is a clever OC and will find a good use for Loy. He almost won a national championship with a DB playing QB.
Pretty much my thoughts as well. I expected to see him land at an FCS school where he might start. I'm guessing he'll possibly see a position change or will be used in a wildcat-type package.

This was definitely a disappointment. I thought Wilson showed real promise. His twitter seemed to show that he was excited for the upcoming BG season, and then the switch flipped and he was in the portal. Makes me think there was something either academic or that Loeffler asked him to move on.

Yeah, and as SL has pointed out several times, with each of these defections, BG is handcuffed by the allotted numbers of guys it can fill through recruiting to replace them. Schools that are at or close to the 85 can offset these type of losses with the next class. BG is nowhere near that and you saw what we had to do to creatively go over 25 for this past class - but many of those were counters that will cut into next year's class numbers because of that. As SL said, it's going to take years to get the numbers right and with each and every defection, it sets us further back. I have no idea why Wilson left, but if it wasn't for a negative reason, then it certainly doesn't positively help BG whatsoever. He was a player who logged several starts and was on the two-deep at the end of the year for a position we are in trouble the most. DB isn't a position we even have "options." It's a position where we have to play guys out of necessity. Right now we simply don't have the depth or talent there to grow/develop the position. We simply have too many incumbent DB's who will see the field because we have to have them do so, rather than playing guys who earned the spots through competition against their peers. We're recruiting guys who can help us get to that point down the road. But they need to stay for that to happen.

Do we know for certain this guy was someone who also wasn't just filling a spot? I'm not being critical, but your post made a few assumptions that I don't know are true...like if this guy had the talent to help turn things around. BG is in a difficult spot as you noted, and it may be that SL knows we will be weak at the position with or without this guy, and would rather try and use that scholarship for someone more talented. At this stage, we have to trust the coaches to do what's best for the program.

Most everyone in the BG portal is there for a reason.....I’ll leave it at that, again.

For those who think most every guy who enters the transfer portal is there for negative reasons, you are sorely mistaken. There’s a huge difference between knowing why and speculating why.

We have 5 DBS in the portal, and 1 has been picked up, as most rosters are set and camps open soon. That one picked up is going to YSU, where Pellini is now,....the guy who recruited him. It should tell an observer something.... maybe?

I'm really excited for Grant! He was vastly under utilized last season and seemed to be lower than the water boy on the depth chart. He should have been the starter the minute the decision came down on McDonald. Instead we spent the season talking about how McDonald was the guy and how much better off we would be with him under center. It was really disappointing to see the staff throw everyone else under the bus and throw toddler like tantrums.

Should McDonald have gotten a waiver, yes. Did he, no. Play the hand you are dealt and not the hand you want.

I hope both Grant AND McDonald tear it up this year.

Frankly I'm glad Loy didn't start until UT. They weren't aware of his full skillset. Not sure we beat them if they had half a season of film on him ... and not sure our record is any different the games prior. Only possibility is beating LT and even then I don't think that outcome would change with a different QB.

I don’t like to throw stones at players here if it is avoidable, but did you watch any games? Underutilized? We had TWO QBs... coach had to make sure they survived.... if he started Loy, a runner only, and he got hurt, we were FUBAR. We will be an entirely different offense with McDonald this season. We could barely throw a pass last season.... which puts 8 in the box.... which means we punt from our own 15-20 all game.... he was a good kid and I wish him luck too.
