What hubris to say that we would have a novel virus "under control" if only those deplorables who disagree with me wouldn't make up their own mind and instead do exactly what I want! No one has ever controlled the flu or the common cold before; what discovery has been made in the past six months that would control any similar virus? How is that discovery so incontrovertible that you have the temerity to proclaim a definitive solution?

And don't tell me that "under control" means that there can still be some cases. If it's too dangerous to society for a 20-year-old All-American football player to have the virus, it's too dangerous for anyone.

This is much closer to Polio. Did we control Polio?

Does everyone know what happens in football? Like the tackling? And the extreme closeness? How often are you tackled at work?

The beauty of living in a country like this one is that I have the freedom to say that sometimes this country sucks. And this is one of those times. We're no closer to solving anything than we were in March, and yes, to quote jpfalcon, that is a sad commentary of how dysfunctional things have become.

Under control means an acceptable risk. We're nowhere close to that. I never said anything about deplorables. If that's how you view yourself, so be it. I work in public health. I see what happens every day when people choose to ignore best practices from both sides of the aisle. Making it a political fight is why we're in this position, and it's frustrating.

The first Covid case in Korea was recorded on Jan 21, the same day as the first US case. They've had 305 total fatalities, zero yesterday. They also held an in-person election in April with with the highest turnout in three decades, without triggering another wave. The Koreans have been playing baseball since May 5. While restrictions remain in place, my family members over there report back that life as they know it is basically back to normal. This is what under control looks like and were we at this point we'd be in front of our TVs watching Tuesday Night MACtion and I'd be counting days to an opening face-off. Instead we cherry pick "data" (I use the word loosely) from our favorite biased web sites that reinforces what we want to believe in order to vehemently argue about meaningless minutia to "own the other side." Meanwhile in Sturgis...

It's no wonder the rest of the world has closed their borders to us.

This country has sucked for quite some time. It has continually valued killing people oversees over investing in infrastructure, education, or healthcare. It's long been the most selfish developed country in the world, and that is painfully obvious by simply looking at what policies nearly all of our major politicians stand for and keep getting elected.

The virus has exposed it in a major way, but there was never any doubt this country was as ill prepared as any modern nation could possibly be to handle a pandemic. The worst healthcare system in the world, a society that overwhelmingly values individualism over the good of the whole, and a society that values money over nearly anything.

So here we are. Basking in how shitty we are as a country while a good portion of the world has not "solved" it, but been able to manage it to the point of returning to some normalcy. We'll continue dealing with these half assed measures for another year or two unless we just decide to say f**k it and let the virus pick and choose who lives and dies. And the fun part is you still have people saying we're doing TOO much to try and stop the spread. Ah America...what a shithole we've let our country become.

How can we play football when the bodies are piling up and are lining our streets!!? The Virus is rampant here.... communist countries like North Korea and China actually care for their people, and the virus barely exists there. They did it right with genius insight and supreme technology, and caring hands. I think we need to wear masks and remain shut down for at least two more years, until every child is safe. It’s all about the kids.

I believe the virus is a real threat and treat accordingly. However, if you look at the facts... 2 children in Ohio have died from coronavirus. Last January, 5 children in Cuyahoga county died of the flu in one week. If we really want to protect children, have a lockdown from November to April each year from the flu...

I'm sorry this has happened to you.

Several conferences still haven't cancelled their season. Maybe one of them needs a backup WR & part-time PR, and you can drive your kid around the piles of dead bodies in your streets to one of those schools & he can play immediately. I'll sign the transfer form if it helps.

Some researches believe re can achieve herd immunity at 20% infection rate (including asymptomatic) thanks to our friend T cell cross immunity.

The reactions towards this disease have become hysterical...it's a viral infection that is really bad for older people and folks with more than one co morbidity (if you're a 25 year-old obese, hypertensive diabetic...it's a threat) . It's not a death sentence. I don't think it's a crisis any longer..if it ever really was. Go back to school...go back to work...wash your hands regularly and stay home if you're sick

What's your plan to fix the pandemic?
