Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including football
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
So you are saying that the purpose of the student fees is so that BGSU can fund Division 1 athletics? We need to get BGSU to come right out and say that publicly. Or they should use your tax analogy and see how the students receive that. They lose insane amounts of money with student fees. The sport that loses the most, also has the highest paid employee at BGSU. Your theory about picking a school probably applied 20 years ago. Today is does not. The system is broken. See no further than the lights on at high school stadiums all over the state, and Bob & Scot spending the days protesting. Just wait until the athletes themselves can get a piece of the money that Bob & Scot get. Texas laid off 35 athletic department members today. Times they are a changing.

But I'm not paying the Generic College student fee and expecting Generic College's stated benefits. I'm paying the BGSU fee and expecting BGSU's stated benefits.footballguy51 wrote:Student fees are NOT just so they can go to games without an additional charge. In fact, many schools charge student fees and then require their students to buy tickets to games on top of that.
Now that the benefits to the deal have changed, don't I have a case for renegotiating my contribution to the deal?
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
Also, where can i find a list of the stated benefits?

Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
The status of our sports teams had nothing to do with my decision to attend BGSU. I had family that had gone to OSU, UT, and OU. BGSU was different, had a great RTVF department and it felt like home when I visited in the summer.
But that was long ago when the hockey team was the only program with a national profile and college hockey was pretty obscure, so the notion that they would charge me fees to masquerade as a big time football school would have been unthinkable

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
BGSU doesn't need football to get students. They watch OSU play on the Saturday's BGSU is playing. Often in the grass by the Doyt. BGSU sure doesn't need to pay a football coach over 500K. If he is good he leaves before the bowl game, if he stinks BGSU loses even more money while paying him and 20% more to the next guy.
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
I grew up attending BGSU basketball games. I knew players on the basketball team by name before I even realized that it was a school. My grandparents had season tickets since the 60s, and I've missed no more than a handful of games in the last 25 years.
Even with that longtime fandom in my blood it never once occurred to me to choose to attend BGSU because of the sports teams. I chose BG because it was close enough to stay at my parents house (saving me money) and they offered my degree. Once on campus I ended up working with and getting to know a lot of the football guys which got me following them very closely and ditching my early life attachment to OSU, but football had zero to do with why I attended BGSU.
And even though I continue to be a fan of BG football, I recognize that what it is costing the current students is absurd. Urban Meyer was making $125k when he left BG for Utah. 18 years later the same position is now paying 4x that sum? And yet BG (and the MAC) is not even close to the relevance it had in those early 2000s.

And now it's paying 4X that to not play games & tweet about going to the moon. First, he should publicly thank all the BGSU students allowing him to continue to get paid while not playing. Second, they should probably start playing again. Third, get within three touchdowns of division opponents when they are able to play again. Then worry about tweeting about a moon.

A rat done bit my sister Nell.
Her face and arms began to swell.
(and Whitey's on the moon)
I can't pay no doctor bill.
(but Whitey's on the moon)
Ten years from now I'll be payin' still.
(while Whitey's on the moon)
The man jus' upped my rent las' night.
('cause Whitey's on the moon)
No hot water, no toilets, no lights.
(but Whitey's on the moon)
I wonder why he's uppin' me?
('cause Whitey's on the moon?)
I was already payin' 'im fifty a week.
(with Whitey on the moon)
Taxes takin' my whole damn check,
Junkies makin' me a nervous wreck,
The price of food is goin' up,
An' as if all that s**t wasn't enough
A rat done bit my sister Nell.
Her face an' arm began to swell.
(but Whitey's on the moon)
Was all that money I made las' year
(for Whitey on the moon?)
How come there ain't no money here?
(Hm! Whitey's on the moon)
Y'know I jus' 'bout had my fill
(of Whitey on the moon)
I think I'll sen' these doctor bills,
Airmail special

The obesity rate is 40% plus, & that hasn't stopped us from eating more garbage.

But you don't become more obese just by coming in contact with an obese person at Kroger, a bar or a football game.

But you do have a better chance of spreading COVID by bringing a bunch of 18-22 year olds to a college campus right? In this situation taking this risk pays all the salaries. Then, you get to grandstand by saying playing sports aren't safe while still getting paid.
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
I beg to differ, sir. That is exactly how it happened to me.threestooges wrote:But you don't become more obese just by coming in contact with an obese person at Kroger, a bar or a football game.
