1% chance. The intention was to punt to spring and see where things are (vaccine, cost of testing, fans allowed, etc.). I spoke with someone in the athletic department last week and even they think the spring only happens if everything breaks the right way.Falco_peregrinusana wrote:If other conferences decide that they will pick up football at the end of October, is there any chance that the MAC may do the same?? It's amazing the reaction people get when they don't 100% agree with something. "You want everybody to die!" Other relevant examples from recent news items include, in no particular order, "You're a racist!" and "You're a sexist!" Welcome to ad hominem, folks.

When you know the other party is so locked in to their opinion that any amount of fact based, rational argument will fall on deaf ears, a sarcastic response is in order as the best way to illustrate the utter absurdity of a question asked. That being said, I also want everyone to die.

I get why people do it, but it isn't effective at all. In fact, when you respond in that way, you actually further shut down any possible communication. I go back to this example frequently only because it personally happened to me. In 2012, I stated I wasn't going to vote for President Obama. Rather than ask for my reasoning, I was informed that I was a racist because I didn't want to vote for him. Apparently there was no conceivable way that I could not want to vote for Obama other than racism. Instead of trying to defend myself, I just moved on. I mean, can you really defend yourself effectively to a claim like that?Beaker wrote:When you know the other party is so locked in to their opinion that any amount of fact based, rational argument will fall on deaf ears, a sarcastic response is in order as the best way to illustrate the utter absurdity of a question asked. No, you can't defend yourself effectively against a comment like that, at least not in a way that the accuser is likely to openly listen to you in an honest way. That's why sarcastic humor is my common response to something like that.
I hope since 2012 you have made strides in improving your racist tendencies.
Again, some sarcastic humor. Some don't appreciate it, I get it, but that's life. You can't please everyone and shouldn't try to.
Since this is supposed to be a forum to discuss football, BYU sure put it on Navy last night! No home crowd would have made a difference in the outcome of that game, had there been one, but when we have these covid games played in an empty stadium, I have to think it really takes away from a home field advantage. The visitor still has the inconvenience of travel, but the home team doesn't have that energy from a crowd to feed off of. Neither does the viewer at home. These games are clearly missing something.

I went to a racially mixed HS in the mid to late 70's (yeah...I'm old) . We weren't nearly as hung up on race as kids seem to be today. And it's not like we didn't understand that here were some cultural and social differences that were rooted in race...we weren't "color blind". We just didn't put much emphasis on the differences. And this was like 10 years post MLK...

It’s all about the kids.
Several conferences still haven't cancelled their season. Maybe one of them needs a backup WR & part-time PR, and you can drive your kid around the piles of dead bodies in your streets to one of those schools & he can play immediately. I'll sign the transfer form if it helps.

I am understanding why certain people aren't taking this seriously. Your inability to comprehend that is frightening. You posted an article about death totals in an attempt to show that this worldwide pandemic was no big deal. I responded, that's just death totals, are we only concerned about people who die immediately. The number of people who have had long term illness is very high.Flipper wrote:Yes...I want everyone to die..right fu**ing now!!
Then you responded with some weird stuff because you couldn't understand what I wrote and people just replied to you because they really want to be smarter than infectious disease experts, doctors, the commissioner of the Big Ten and MAC and governors etc.
I honestly can't believe how infected our country is with this idiocy at this point. The amount of people who think they have more expertise than actual experts because they read something on their right wing website is crazy to me.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/29/heal ... sting.html" target="_blankIn three sets of testing data that include cycle thresholds, compiled by officials in Massachusetts, New York and Nevada, up to 90 percent of people testing positive carried barely any virus, a review by The Times found.
On Thursday, the United States recorded 45,604 new coronavirus cases, according to a database maintained by The Times. If the rates of contagiousness in Massachusetts and New York were to apply nationwide, then perhaps only 4,500 of those people may actually need to isolate and submit to contact tracing.

See Globe...that's just it...infectious disease "experts" are all over the map on this. In the US a decision was made to draw the positive/negative line for a test at a level of sensitivity that no one else is following. As a result...as pointed out above...we are seeing a s**t load of people testing positive who either aren't sick now or carried such an insignificant viral load that they were never a danger to anyone.
YOU aren't taking the fall out of this disastrous policy of shutting society down over a virus that poses a real threat to a very specific set of people seriously. Consider the increase in suicides, drug overdoses, bankruptcies,..look at all the people who didn't seek healthcare for life threatening conditions ...think of all the people who are suffering from depression and have nowhere to turn because they've been isolated from everything and everyone they know. The people who died alone and the families who weren't allowed to mourn them properly...let alone visit them to say goodbye. Meanwhile George Floyd...a man who died with 3x the level of fentanyl is his system to cause a death by overdose gets a virtual State funeral. Congressman Lewis got the same treatment...why was a proper funeral OK for them, but not the rest of the country?
That's not science..it's cruelty.
Gavin Newsom closes gyms in California and buries skateboard parks under tons of sand. Meanwhile...the gyms that serve government officials and their pals stay open. Beauty salons are closed to everyone but Nancy Pelosi. That's science?
People everywhere are being forced to wear masks when in public...but out West they're telling people that those masks won't help against the smoke from the fires because the harmful particles in the smoke are so tiny a mask won't filter them. The problem with that logic is that those particles in the smoke are bigger than the microscopic virus everyone is in panic over. That's science? no..it's a fu**ing JOKE.
Back in March when not much was known about this virus...I was good with shutting things down for a few weeks to get a handle on things. But in states like California and Michigan where autocrats are imposing one set of rules on the people and another on themselves and their cronies...I'm smart enough to see that charade for what it really is...bullshit
You say I'm against science...I've looked at the science...I am not against science. I'm against mendacity in the name of public policy.

Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
I think the MAC was too quick to cancel things. And so was the Big Ten. It now is looking like the Big Ten will have some kind of season beginning in early to mid October (probably 10 games). If they approve this as people seem to think will happen, it's because there are now (I believe) five different companies that make a cheek swab test that can give results in like 15 minutes. Also, they now know the most at-risk condition positive athletes might face, although the chances are low, is myocarditis. And there is a simple MRI test than can be used to follow up on athletes to make sure they aren't having any kind of longer term issue.
Factor in also the fact that football team members, in general , will be grouped together, tested more frequently, and have access to better health care than the general student population, and it makes me wonder why BG can be open for classes but not have Fall sports. The fallout from this decision is already affecting a lot of schools, including BG. The loss of revenue can be all but catastrophic for athletic programs, and that means cuts of certain sports and loss of scholarships for those sports. Thousands of students who might have gotten a scholarship for a sport they're good at will now have that opportunity taken away.
I wish the MAC had taken more of a wait-and-see approach on this, or even tried to go forward and play, especially if students are going to be on campus.

Of course they were too quick to cancel. When has pandering to the mob ever worked out? So now, looks like BG will have about 5 “spring practices” starting last week of September.... lots of injuries now, and a Covid quarantine could potentially kill that. No way we play “this season” in spring, in my opinion. If the money loss killed it in fall, it won’t be better in Spring.....especially if you are playing as normal in the following fall, a few months later.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
