2020-2021 Plans

In an article yesterday, Coach Eigner suggested that there were 4 potential plans they were looking at:

1. Starting on time (the current plan, as of now - we're one month out from the season)

2. Starting at Thanksgiving

3. Starting January 1

4. Not starting at all, and not having a season

I'm curious, what does everyone think will happen? Will there be Falcon Hockey a month from tonight? Or are we looking at a delay/cancellation?

(I think it's pretty clear that a packed building is off the table at this point, so we don't necessarily need that to be a part of the discussion here, I'm just curious when you all think we'll see the boys out on the ice again.)

I'd be shocked if there's a season at all. So long as every case of covid is seen as a catastrophe, no way the administration allows anything beyond academics or small group extracurriculars. Even if there's a vaccine available for the general public by the latest start day possible, it won't be 100% effective, which means it won't be good enough.

I think it's "wait and see" what happens with the SEC/ACC/XII football experiment. If they can pull it off we'll skate. So I'll pick option 2 or 3 with 3 being more heavily weighted given what the Ivies and NSIC are up to.

Hastings was quoted about a month ago or so saying something along the lines of "hopefully a conference only schedule starting in January."

It's all going to depend on what happens at the beginning of November. Who wins and how long that process gets dragged out. There's no denying it's going to be a s**t show. At this point, there is no way to avoid it.

*Everybody has an opinion on the matters and they've been well discussed (and cussed) elsewhere, so there's no need to hash that out. It would be futile to try and change anybody's mind here. Seems like everybody is well entrenched in their thinking.*

Announcement coming soon that the season will be postponed until at least mid-November, likely coinciding with the start of the NCAA basketball season.

I know it's a somewhat different animal, but nearly every D3 hockey conference has announced no hockey until Jan 1 at the soonest.

In a joint statement, all D1 conferences are delaying the start of the season. Individual conferences will be announcing plans as they finalize them.

NCHC says they hope to start season on November 20th....I assume most leagues will be the same.
Although the Ivy schools have already said they won't play until Jan 1st.

I think they figure they will have 2 months with no students on campus to get the season going then, since most schools are ending semesters at Thanksgiving.

Hopefully there’s some light at the end of the tunnel and we can see hockey, basketball and baseball have a somewhat normal season.
From a personal standpoint this thing is basically a bunch of minor inconveniences...but for these college athletes it’s devastating. They already had last season ruined and it would be a shame to lose this year too. It’s nice the NCAA has granted some eligibility exceptions, but I’m sure the kids are ready to get back to competing.

Comments from MTU AD Suzanne Sanregret on Mix93 this morning indicate a number of things.

1) there are numerous schedule models in place behind the scenes
2) when final plans are announced, they can each be implemented quickly
3) the general plan is a conference heavy/conference only season starting January 1
4) there is discussion about non-conference games with the Big Ten and NCHC for December
5) ESPN is refusing to move the NCAA tournament dates, so they will likely stay as they are
6) with no PairWise, the plan with the most support to determine the NCAA field will rely on autobids, and not a human committee
7) the GLI is essentially dead for LCA this year, but there have been discussions about an alternate format with MSU and UM

I just received an email from FloSports touting the news that in addition to broadcasting all WCHA and CCHA games (and Atlantic Hockey as well) they are now the exclusive home of ECHL.TV. I'm already a yearly subscriber and am pretty pumped to now be able to see Falcon alums playing at the next level.
