Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including football
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
Now is when the MAC’s decision gets interesting. Still not playing, blaming lack of funds for testing, players realizing it’s all about the money. Meanwhile, the administrators & coaches get paid minus furlough Friday. They can’t afford testing, but could afford hotels all summer long. They couldn’t afford baseball, but gave the basketball coach a 70k raise the year before (he wasn’t going anywhere and hasn’t taken them anywhere) they paid Mike Jinks 200k in December 2019. They budgeted a cooked budget of 20 million in revenue while the campus was totally shut down. Bob takes over Recreation & Wellness to further justify his salary without games & allow funds to be squeezed from that department toward athletics. Tweeting doesn’t produce dollars without games and MAC schools will be facing a huge transfer problem very soon.

The Mountain West is now also trying to come back and play this fall, in addition to the PAC 12 making some progress on that front. I don't know if the MAC wants to be the only one left out there, but it could end up that way.

I somewhat agree with this. Even if last year's Big Ten champ beat the MAC champ by 71 (tough, Miami!), I would love to see the little guys get a shot. Who knows? Maybe you get an upset every once in a while. I don't think BG would ever line it up and knock Clemson, Ohio State, and Bama down 3 games in a row... but maybe we'd get lucky with the right match-up once?pdt1081 wrote:One would think now would be the time for the small conferences to push for an actual playoff (and bigger share of that money). With the non-conference games gone this year, there's no real way to compare conferences. It's only right that each conference gets a representative in the playoffs.hammb wrote:For a couple pennies on the dollar. ESPN wants content. Nobody will watch these games, just as they've never watched any other MAC games. So ESPN will want these games in Feb, so they have content, then they'll make sure that they show the ratings (or lack thereof) to ensure we still get nothing financially.Flipper wrote:Moving the season to February to appease ESPN is just so.....MAC. Anything to please the Gods of Cable
This plan will not make any additional money for this conference, I'm sure. Will just serve as yet another nail in the coffin of burying MAC hoops in an attempt to breathe life into the long dead corpse that is MAC football.

The MAC Football players have taken to Twitter showing they want to play. I fully expect the MAC to atleast begin to waver based on that alone. We shall see. It’s protect wages first, then react to Twitter in the administrator decision making handbook these days. Literally no need to worry about whether Bob will flip on playing. See BGSU baseball or landscaper for how he will react to Twitter pressure.

I think his baseball strategy was tough...but brilliant. He got people to come forward to privately fund a non revenue sport in a time of financial crisis. The only way to save baseball here was to play it that way.
Re the landscaper...f88k that racist POS. Does the AD supervise general groundskeeping employees?

I was on a Zoom call last night with Rodgers. In the middle of the meeting he got a call from the MAC regarding football. I suggested he patch them in live so we could all listen in.

If you think what happened with BGSU Baseball was a strategy that Bob intended, you couldn’t be more wrong. President Rogers would call it anything but brilliant strategy. It was pissed off alumni, timing, and Bob’s lack of strategy that saved it. Bob embarrassed himself throughout the process.

We get it...you hate Bob. I prefer to judge results...Bob got someone else to pay for BGSU baseball. Bob's a genius

Brilliant Bob. He played BGSU Baseball, quit BGSU Baseball, cut BGSU Baseball, then got lucky Andy Tracy and others saved BGSU Baseball. Brilliant Bob to the rescue.

Have to agree with Guest on this one. Bob got lucky, but certain wasn’t brilliant!

Sounds like there will be another vote this weekend on fall football. MAC doesn't want to be the only ones not attending the dance.

Flipper, looks like another hero moment for all MAC AD's as they realize being the only conference (including high schools) not playing wouldn't be a wise career move. A completely predictable, total reactionary, lacking of all leadership, complete opposite message from yesterday. Wow what a flip flop in 20 hours. It's almost as if the area high school AD's are more competent at a fraction of the price.

I don't know that the AD's were driving the cancel bus...it wouldn't shock me if they were driving the move to play a fall schedule . I think University leadership played a huge role in cancelling and now that they have cover from the P5...it makes sense to try and salvage something

Bob literally had zero to do with Baseball being reinstated. The alumni went over his head to the president.
In speaking to several people in the department, there is an obvious feeling that Bob is over his head in most situations.
