JC, glad we are ONLY playing MAC games this year!
No kidding, can you image had we played Ohio State like we were scheduled to? It could have been worse than the major beatdown they gave us a few years ago.

I’m glad you mentioned this. I couldn’t even stomach much of our game so I watched OU-CMU. Two programs who are head and shoulders above us. AND - for those of you who keep explaining how we need time, CMU won 1 damn game two years ago and went to the MACC the next season under a new coach. They did what they needed to do with what they had. I understand curbing expectations, but at some point you need to show some sort of improvement and stop blaming youth or the past staffs. CMU and OU both rolled two redshirt Freshman QB’s out there and they both balled out. A player doesn’t need to be a Jr or Sr to be good for crying out loud. It’s about recruiting truly good player and making them better. Not hoping for a bad player to be better in several years just because he’s now an upperclassmen.
GO BG!!!

Meanwhile, BGSU is out here bragging and tweeting about a 3-10 career coach and the contract structure to be hired away. Talk about getting way out in front of actually winning.

I’m officially in the Loeffler isn’t the guy camp. He better be able to recruit, because we aren’t out coaching anyone. Losing with a young team is one thing... getting blown out 3 of every 4 games isn’t exactly reflecting well on preparation.
We suck in baseball too. It’s a moot point.
Only because the program was sabotaged by Greg Christopher and Moosbrugger. I think they’ll be quite a bit better now that the alumni are involved.

That's like comparing apples to dump trucks. CMU did not go through the type of roster destruction BG found itself in a year ago, where they were something like 15 players below the 85 threshold. And both of those programs have been pretty stable for a long time, even with a coaching change at CMU. OU, on the other hand, has been exceptionally stable, which allows for faster inclusion of new players because the system has been in place for a long time.

If we're seeing this same crap in two years, and don't see any improvement next year when the team has (hopefully) a normal off season of weight training, practices, etc., then we can talk about whether or not Loeffler needs to go. Stability in a coaching staff immensely helps recruiting, too.

So who is the quarterback that is going to turn this around? Doege wasn't it. Loy wasn't it. McDonald isn't it. We waiting until 2022 to see them?

The reason we have “sucked” at baseball is that we have played with fewer scholarships, lower budget and fewer paid coaches than our competition. The same cannot be said for football.

You figured that out after 1 game, against the team picked to win the MAC? I guess the young undersized line had nothing to do with it. Or that our TB was playing with a sprained AC joint. I left thinking if this was last year, starting the way we did last night, the final would have been 60-0. EVERYONE predicts 2-4 , 1-5, ......then are ready to hang themselves after we lose to the projected best team in the MAC, on our first game?!? .... so weird, and stupid.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

This is spot on. The defense had a few bad plays, but overall there was significant improvements in the front seven, and there were SO MANY FRESHMEN playing. More than I can remember in any game. What was it, like 20+? UT only scored 17 over the last three quarters. I'll take it.

I was very disappointed with McDonald's play considering the praises that have been very loudly sung for him, but I won't fold on him after one game. He hits even half of the easy short passes he missed, and adjusts his touch on a few others (which I'll chalk up to adrenaline for the first half) and the game is two scores closer due to field position and time of possession, alone. He definitely needs to quicken his release, though, if this is the offensive line play we have all season. Otherwise we might as well play a QB that can run a little, too.

The defense was somewhat encouraging, especially given many of the hands they were dealt.

The problem is the offense looked special Ed. That’s pretty worrisome in this era of offenses winning championships and not defenses. Having an improved defense will be moot if the offense can’t ever give them a break.

The offensive line was not very good. The QB play was a mess. Receivers weren't getting separation. Running back apparently not at 100%. Any one of those issues can improve during a season. But wholesale improvements on offense during a 6 game season? Probably not. Hopefully the team learns a lot of lessons and cultivates some depth during the short season.

In game coaching has to improve. That goal line series on offense was a clusterf**k. And it's on coaches and in game coordination. That cost 4 points. Not that it really mattered but still.

Going into Kent, not sure what to expect. They beat EMU close and I don't have a read on if that is impressive or not. EMU lost some key talent from last season.

I love Andrew Clair at RB, but he’s been injury prone, went out after taking a hit, never got back in. Hopefully, he’ll have a healthier Jr. season.
Would seem we’ve got a couple of backup RB s that camn help. Would like to see the kid from Sandusky, 1st RB since Stew Williams from Sandusky?

I like 21 Raymore better than Clair, to be honest. Apparently he is the most difficult to stop in practice.

Yes, I figured that McDonald is not great after Wednesday night. It’s hard, almost impossible, to go 8-30 passing in a MAC Football game. Toledo is good, I’ll be very surprised if they win the MAC. They were picked first by like 1 vote over two other teams, nowhere near Toledo football teams past. I watched the goal line possession and realized good team and well coached teams never look like that also. I hope it improves, but that looked terrible.

I also realize the Toledo DC, who had actual head coaching experience, would have taken the BG job back in late 2018. His defense allowed BG inside the red zone once in a college football game in 2020. All eyes were focused on Boston back when he wanted the job.

I think Clair is probably the more talented pure running back since I've started following BG (granted I am younger than several other people on AZZ), but he just hasn't had a solid offensive line to prove it, plus he has certainly had injury problems. That said, I see your point and I could see Raymore being more difficult bring down because he's like 60 lbs heavier. With a porous O-line, he'll probably see a bit more time this year. Maybe he can help wear down the defensive fronts a bit more early in games.
