Non-League

Post by unfalconbelievable »

I've heard from sources within the athletic department that the team is actively looking to try to fill the holes in the schedule but leagues or certain leagues won't play either us or anyone. Only reason we played Adrian was proximity. However, Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State have said no, but interesting that they all play Arizona State this year at their place. More or less some of them don't want a home-and-home with us. Western Michigan and Miami both said no they are only playing league schedule, but we all know they travel that league has. The indirect collision by leagues in college hockey is absurd. They all need each other and when you think you're bigger then others and that P5 mentality creeps in its going to break down the entire sport

One would think the 5-team ECAC would be looking for games.

It's a nightmare for sure. Without digging through a composite schedule (is there one?) I believe BG is playing the most "out of conference" games of anyone in the country. The NCHC thinks they are a professional league, and Western and Miami's votes were probably cancelled out about playing out of conference.

Scheduling some ECAC teams would be great, but are any of them willing to travel to Ohio? The team can't just throw budgeting out the window just to get games. Managing the different travel "rules" in different states has to be worse than a 4 day migraine. I know at one point, New York was requiring a 14 day quarantine for anybody who travelled out of state.

The game at Robert Morris, originally scheduled for this coming Tuesday, has been moved to December 1.

RPI cancelled their season and seems Union is not far behind them sometime today.....with the Ivies already cancelled not sure who the remaining ECAC teams are going to actually play. I have a feeling these two games at Quinnipiac are most likely never going to take place.......as the rest of the ECAC will most likely just bag it for lack of games.

Quinnipiac games are definitely in danger now. ECAC only has four teams remaining. Unless they figure something out I can't see them playing each other 8 times a season.

With the demise of Anchorage, every WCHA team now has a two-game hole in their schedules. If the ECAC teams are willing to travel west, there are opportunities available, but would two more games really be enough to justify a season?

And if you blinked you may have missed that as of a few minutes ago RIT is now back to playing hockey this season. Two steps backwards, one step forward. The people running the Atlantic Hockey composite schedule page are sure being kept busy.

Why would the budget be an issue? They aren't making trips to Alaska this season, and those were originally planned.

There are no ticket sales. And with no fans in the building, sponsorships are most likely suffering as well. Yes, the travel budget has greatly improved, but I'm sure some of that is being spent on testing. And regardless of the situation, there's no reason to be playing teams that won't play in Bowling Green.

I'd also add that the WCHA teams have enough OOC and in-conference opponents to host a meaningful season which can't be said for the ECAC teams. So where are they going to get games? B1G and Nachos are out. The only opportunity for HE opponents (and it's a slim one at best) lasts until Vermont starts up then that door closes. Atlantic Hockey isn't looking to add any more OOC games. Because of Anchorage we're about the only option available post-January. They need us more than we need them. Not very often the WCHA can say that. They may as well start warming up the bus.

The Mercyhurst series next week is rumored to have been canceled. Nothing official yet, but they did cancel another series.

If that ends up the case, I wouldn't be shocked if we added another game in that time frame, if possible.
