Strange Blade story on recruiting

Post by Schadenfreude »

I'm a little troubled by this story, if only because it reflects such a strong obsession with Toledo and seems to only mentions Bowling Green when it cannot be avoided. It never, for instance, includes an affirmative statement that Bowling Green does recruit Northwest Ohio fairly well, much less explore what that might mean.

In an accompanying column, John Harris never mentions Bowling Green at all.

The whole thing makes me uneasy, as if The Blade's sportswriters think of us as a second-class athletic program right in their backyard.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this.

I don't think the story or the Harris column mentions BG much because they were designed to be hit pieces on the Rockettes. Giving BG much beyond a cursory mention would only distract from the primary theme;

"The Rockettes suck"

hmmmmmmm...... 8) I do believe that thought has been stated here on occasion!! :mrgreen:
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
