Akron Game
No fans this week. Summit County has stay at home order, so fans permitted. Ugh
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Re: Akron Game
Kinda surprised it's not canceled. Regardless I hope no pillows get damaged.

I'm sure if it wasn't for the ESPN TV money it would be canceled. Both schools need that.
Re: Akron Game
BG will spend way more in travel than what they’ll get from ESPN for this game.
Re: Akron Game
No worries the students already paid for those costs in general fees this Fall while basically 1/4 of all resources were available to them.

Re: Akron Game
I think it was reported that each MAC team made $850K from ESPN.

For the 100th time...
$850K is probably pretty accurate in terms of yearly payout on paper...that number is likely less due to Covid shortening schedules.
What they don’t tell you is that each school is responsible for several production costs and also must provide a certain amount of content for ESPN+. Each one of those events cost money to air. Not to mention it also includes Men’s basketball rights.
Thus the actual payout is closer to half that number if not less.
Not sure how much you think FB spends to take a trip with 75+ people, but it ain’t cheap. I’m extremely confident that we’ll spend much more than we’ll get per football game when it’s said and done.
No one in the MAC would admit this....because it is kinda embarrassing

Re: Akron Game
Well they need to pump up that 850K number to lessen the blow that the entire department is funded by 13 million in student fees. Any big number that can be used to offset that, makes them feel good. 850K is about what BGSU spends annual on the defensive coaching staff.

Re: Akron Game
People tune in briefly which familiarizes a pocket of people that BG exists to people throughout the country. Due to broadcast athletics someone in Arkansas is more likely to know about BG than Findlay or Defiance. At the same time I think MAC schools need to rework the deal as a commercial production and get some time set aside in broadcasts to advertise academic and other athletic programs to better utilize this expensive platform.

The $850K per team was the revised contract after we reset the season. Whether we have to pay electricity or gas to get the announcers there, I cannot say.guest44 wrote:Well they need to pump up that 850K number to lessen the blow that the entire department is funded by 13 million in student fees. Re: Akron Game
Wonder if BG and Akron would give some money back in exchange for ESPN not airing the game on any platform?
Re: Akron Game
For some awful reason I looked up team stats going into this one. I don't suggest it. A few that popped out ...
- Akron has 5 picks and 3 TDs in the passing game
- and has allowed 11 TDs and 0 picks
- allows nearly double yards per play than they earn
- allowed a Miami receiver to catch 4 TDs last week. That's video game accomplishment level stuff
Not that we have any room to speak.
- we allow 339 rush yards per game. Akron allows "only" 225
- we have one TD pass against 6 picks on the season while also allowing 11 TDs and no picks
Good luck making it through this game! But hey, we're not a s**thole like Akron.

Should be a competitive game. Honestly don't know who will win considering the state of both programs.MarkL wrote:For some awful reason I looked up team stats going into this one. I don't suggest it. A few that popped out ...
