Again, we were fortunate not to have played all scheduled opponents this year. The less exposure the better with what we have come forth with this season. At present, we play like a Div. II team. Next year, from what I see, should be a step forward with a few wins, and then the following season will come judgement day for the present staff and players.guest44 wrote:So let's recap. I agree with everyone on here who is questioning the “give Jinks more time” crowd who is now the “give Loeffler more time” crowd. This guy is a disaster. Anecdotal evidence shows he’s a jerk. Kids don’t play this poorly for a coach they respect and trust. And anyone who says otherwise must ONLY watch BG football, because any cursory knowledge of football at other places and levels would show this to be unequivocally true. Bob and Kit made this mess. Every time we end up in a situation like this it’s because leadership abandons it’s responsibility to run a proper search. That, again, is what happened here. Bob can glad hand his way around the parking lots all he wants, but he blew this badly, and it’s not going to turn around. Don’t want to hear about talent. Blackney had Sahm and J5 and won 2 games. Urban had Sahm and J5 and won 8 while almost doubling points scored. It’s coaching. If it makes you feel better to say “give him more time” simply because BG is poor and we’re stuck with him thru at least year 4, great. But we all know how this movie ends. We’ve already seen it many times.
Re: Akron Game
What would be interesting to know is what went on with Carl Pelini? Why was he initially going to stay on as an assistant? Whose idea was that?
Re: Akron Game
This isn't far off from where I'm at with the current staff. Thus far there has been absolutely zero redeeming quality from them. No coach worth a damn gets blown out by that akron squad. Nobody was expecting anybody to come in here and turn things around quickly, but you don't get blown out by that akron team on talent deficiencies alone...that takes a storm of awful coaching and subpart mac talent.falcfan wrote:I agree with everyone on here who is questioning the “give Jinks more time” crowd who is now the “give Loeffler more time” crowd. I have zero expectations of firing this staff. Not do I think doing so would immediately "fix" this program. We don't have the money so we're stuck with this group for the foreseeable future, but it is readily apparent to anybody watching this team that this group is no better on gamedays or game week than the Jinks staff was. Now hopefully his bullshit about building things up will eventually manifest itself in fixing some of the talent deficiencies, but I see nothing to make me believe this group will ever produce a consistent winner.
It was piss poor leadership to purposefully build a roster of almost all freshmen. It takes piss poor coaching to have the team consistently make the same mistakes every week. It was piss poor talent eval to think McDonald was the answer to anything. It's a s**t show all around and much like last time we're stuck with it for awhile.
Re: Akron Game
I was ready to fire Jinks after two years. Someone who thinks he should be given more time would not come to the conclusions I wrote three years ago. Jinks inherited a pretty good situation and tanked it.
Jinks was given three years. Which was at minimum one more year than he should have been given. Loeffler has a vision and it aligns with the AD's vision. So you can guarantee Loeffler will be given at least as much time as Jinks had.
Now something to also remember. The AD talked in an interview with the blade about how he is not putting pressure on Loeffler to win now. He also said he is going to continually evaluate for progress. He is not just going to give Loeffler all the time to do damage with no payoff. After this disaster of a year do not be surprised if the AD steps in to push for some changes. Anyone remember that article? Can't find it but I remember reading it. I think this past offseason.

Year 2 of the Dave Clawson era was the low point, and this mess is way, way bigger than anything Dave Clawson faced. I think Loeffler can get this done.Beaker wrote:We all knew we were facing a total rebuild at the beginning of last year, but I see nothing being built.

Year 2 for Clawson was the low point. He had been a head coach before. The MAC East was terrible during that time. Bowling Green was much more competitive that season. Year 2 being dog crap is the only thing Clawson and Loeffler have ever had in common.
Re: Akron Game
MAC sure is on notice now isn’t it. Maybe one of the changes should be a strength coach. I know one poster on this board with a pretty impressive bench press. I’d at least reach out to MarkL if I was Loeffler/Moosebrugger, worth a shot.MarkL wrote:I was ready to fire Jinks after two years. Bob Moosbrugger isn't putting pressure on Loeffler to win? Really? We do not need to see the article, the fact that Bowling Green hasn't had a quarterback who can pass in 2 seasons, tells us Loeffler is under no pressure. The AD should have stepped in and cleaned out all things Kingston years ago. Don't expect the AD to do much of anything.

Re: Akron Game
Two realistic changes I would suggest -
1. Change at OC / QB coach. For obvious reasons
2. Take some transfers from someplace other than Boston College. I know Loeffler is very much in the mindset of build with freshmen and then patch up as needed with JC transfers when the foundation is set. Which is a fine idea. But come on, we need some talent with some birthdays and experience. Even in 2010 Clawson was taking transfers. The puritan view of only HS players is respectably naive but naive nonetheless.

Re: Akron Game
Loeffler is OC and Warner just has title of being QB Coach. Basically Loeffler would have to give up play calling duties and being so involved with the QBs and be more of a head coach.MarkL wrote:Two realistic changes I would suggest -

I think he is too stubborn to change his recruiting philosophy now.

Yeah. Afraid you're right. This is where the AD can and perhaps should step in to course correct some.Tony4BG wrote:

Same as Warner. Title only. Doubt he has any input at all.mbenecke wrote:Terry Malone is actually the OC. I wonder how much input he has.

Good thing this is the season-shortened throwaway eligibility year. If this season actually mattered, could you imagine what devastating long-term consequences there would be for my liver?BGSU33 wrote: This is the worst football team in the history of BG football. Period.
