QB situation
Re: QB situation
Nope, its called understanding what Addazio was doing at Boston College wasn't even being viewed as sufficient by his own administration. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand Boston College football and everything Steve Addazio was mediocre. But Moosebrugger had a BC guy in his ear internally. Got it? Urban Meyer gets Addazio hired. Rinse and repeat. See Colorado State.

Re: QB situation
Mike Jinks had already given up on James Morgan, and Jarrett Doege only seemed to have one foot in the program. I don't blame Loeffler for wanting to start fresh with his own coaching staff. If Doege decided to bail once his brother was pink slipped, I'm not going to hold that against Loeffler. It would have been nice to have talked Doege into staying, and perhaps some coaches could have done that, but given what it seemed to take to get him here in the first place -- giving his brother a job -- I'm not sure how realistic that was.hammb wrote:Worth mentioning that Loeffler inherited a worthwhile, if not stellar, group of MAC QBs, and either A) couldn't keep them in the program, or B) ran them off in favor of his own QBs.
If you are saying Loy was better than McDonald, I don't see it that way. McDonald isn't the second coming of Brian McClure or Omar Jacobs, but he occasionally makes a deep throw. Loy played with a ton of heart, and he'll always have that 2019 Toledo game to talk about, but he didn't seem able to make deep throws at all.
Re: QB situation
Yeah, I'm confused on who the stellar group of QBs were. Expecting Doege to stay after his brother got let go is a stretch, especially considering the lifelong relationship he had with the WVU coach. Loy was a great backup and glue guy with a strong, but inaccurate arm, and a run-first response to pressure. Veasley hasn't even broken through as a starter at Duquesne. The others at the time were walk-ons. I'm a lot more excited about Keller & Melton (Keller, in particular, though I seem to be alone in that favoritism) than I ever was about Loy or Veasley.Schadenfreude wrote:Mike Jinks had already given up on James Morgan, and Jarrett Doege only seemed to have one foot in the program. Re: QB situation
Clawson had Sheehan as a senior in 2009, then started Schilz as a freshman in 2010 until he was unseated by Matty J in 2013. After that is when the QB issues arose. Babers recruited Morgan, Jinks tried him in his system but it didn't work, he transfers out. Doege comes in, has success, but Jinks gets fired, and Doege splits after spring ball in 2019. Loeffler comes in, the cupboard is bare, McDonald has his waiver denied so Wade and Loy play last year. The sad thing is, it's like this at multiple positions.hammb wrote:Worth mentioning that Loeffler inherited a worthwhile, if not stellar, group of MAC QBs, and either A) couldn't keep them in the program, or B) ran them off in favor of his own QBs.guest44 wrote:So Bowling Green is bringing in a walk on quarterback from Syracuse? The Syracuse coached by Dino Babers? The coach that "used BGSU"? The same Syracuse that has no good quarterbacks actually playing? Boston College after replacing Addazio, went and got a grad transfer qb for the 2020 season. Are we sure our quarterback whisperer of a coach is actually any good at coaching quarterbacks? Tim Tebow was a decade ago, and that was Urban Meyer. At Bowling Green, he has played the three worst passing quarterbacks since Freddie Barnes ran wildcat. Atleast he and Loy could run.
I keep looking at Loeffler's resume for hope. In 2011 he was at Temple when they lost 13-10 to Matt Schilz and BGSU. In 2012 he coached Auburn to dead last in all offensive categories in the SEC. In what season was an offense he coached even explosive after his Tebow year? Virginia Tech under achieved in Beamer's final years, and Boston College fired the whole staff. I'm sure knowing Tom Brady had huge influence on Bob & especially Kit. We know Boston College a year before he was to be fired, somehow helped him land this job. In the end, Bowling Green hired a mediocre at best coordinator who then sold Bob & Kit on how much experience his staff would have. Experience is great. But, VanGorder was headed out of football, and Morrison was just taking care of a friend. At one point Jim Hermann from the Lloyd Carr era was coaching at BGSU for about three months. This staff has 200 years of experience, but can't even field a respectable team in all the most basic aspects. Loeffler might not even be a good quarterbacks coach in 2020, let alone a head coach. Say what you want about Jinks, and Jinks was a joke, atleast he brought a respectable quarterback along with him.
All he had to do was come in and develop the QBs that were already here, we didn't have a QB talent problem under Jinks (although Jinks kept recycling QBs in the hopes of hitting lightning in a bottle, they could all play a little). Hell we haven't had a QB talent problem here since Clawson had to play Freddie Barnes at the position. But boy howdy do we have one now.

Re: QB situation
That may end up being the case; however, I don’t think Melton has thrown a pass here. He Had shoulder surgery. Can’t imagine how he was evaluated. Keller, right or wrong, was clearly behind Davis all fall.jpfalcon09 wrote:From what I know, you should be more excited with Keller than Melton.drumstix2388 wrote:Yeah, I'm confused on who the stellar group of QBs were. I don't remember what either looked like on film in high school. But I can say there would be nothing better for Ohio recruiting than for a local kid a county away to start and do well at QB.

Nice. That said, has there ever been a football staff that wasn't fired?MarkL wrote:Got it. Moosbrugger should have known that BC would fire the coaching staff ... after the 2019 season ... in 2018. Now you're criticizing Moosbrugger for not owning a time machine.

Re: QB situation
Meyer was fired from Ohio State. Just not publicly. After the Zach Smith incident he was fired at the conclusion of 2018. He did not step down on his own accord, per reports.
In fact of OSU's best three coaches of all time, all were fired. Punching Clemson player on the sideline, lying about knowledge of NCAA violations, covering up for a domestic abuser. I like the way Ryan Day runs the team. He has them focused more consistently than Meyer ever did. So for his career sake I hope he does not meet the same fate. The guy is probably going to be an NFL coach sometime whenever he wants a new challenge and he will be really good.

Re: QB situation
Loeffler said Monday that McDonald won’t practice all week but will play on Saturday. Why would you just let him heal and play someone else when you can play the worst quarterback in the country hurt? Loeffler also said “you can’t move forward if you allow the past to effect your attitude.” Does that apply to football coaches too? 3 weeks prior he was yelling into Zoom about past BGSU Football coaches and drug testing his players to find excuses.

There probably is a lot more but Saban was on the hot seat with the Dolphins. He had a losing record in two seasons and jumped ship to Bama soon after a 6-10 season and repeated denials of interest in the Alabama job.Tony4BG wrote:Off top my head.
