Ferris State (12/11-12/12)

Post by mbenecke »

Following a weekend split with Mercyhurst, our 16th-ranked Falcons (4-1-0) will play a non-conference home/home series with Ferris State, with Friday night’s game being played at the Madhouse on Mercer, and the Saturday night game taking place on the road. Both games will begin at 7:00pm and they'll be broadcast through FloHockey.

Ferris State opens their season tonight with a home contest against UAH, so we don’t know a whole lot about them yet. They were 7-26-2 a year ago, missing the WCHA playoffs along the way. We only played one series last year, with both taking place at home, and BG won both games, 6-1 and 3-1.

This is a nice contest for us, as even though it’s a non-conference tilt, it allows us to play some WCHA competition for the first time this season. I’d like to see 2 wins this weekend, so let’s get to it.

Go Falcons - Beat Ferris!

FSU's rescheduled, from last night, game with UAH has now been cancelled due to COVID issues on UAH.

Therefore, Fridays game at the Ice Arena will now be Ferris' season opener.

Unrelated to this weekend but the conference series between these schools has been moved back a day to Jan. 2-3.

Don't want to jinx (hmm, that's ironic) it, but it's been working fine since the National Anthem.

That was close. And we didn’t have a power play.

Ferris tied it at 2 with just over 5 remaining, but a gorgeous tip in from Max Johnson with 11 seconds left pushes our Falcons over the top with a 3-2 win.

5-1 is a nice start. Gotta make it 6-1 tomorrow on the road. Let’s go Falcons!

I had to reload Flo at the start of each period, but at least it stayed on for the length of each period. Our power play seems a little hesitant so far this season, holding the puck a little longer than they did last year.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

It was interesting for sure. Is there any way that game winner wasn't a high stick?

I loved the puck movement in the first couple of games. Then things slowed down. No trouble with Flo.

After the game I went to FloHockey's home and thought half-halfheartedly about watching another game. A game started playing: Overtime of ECHL Stingrays vs. Swamp Rabbits (win). The Stingrays feature Desalvo, Cooper, and Letourneau. Bednard was in goal for the bunnies.

Luckily for BG he was away from the net. If he’s closer it’s an easier call for them and it probably gets waved off.

3-1 after 2. Dop has made some really nice saves. We’ve missed some good chances. El zippo on the PP this weekend.
