@ Ball State (1/2)

Post by mbenecke »

BG up 19-8 after the first quarter in Muncie, against a 3-3 Ball State team that was 21-10 (13-5) a season ago.

We played them once last year, losing 86-80 in OT. Would be nice to flip that into a win this time around.

Up 36-20 at half and it feels like it should be bigger than that. Ball State is not playing well at all, and BG has taken advantage. What a freshman class this is. This team will be back in the tournament sooner than later.

Also, BG is 7/13 from 3pt and only 4/16 (?!?!) from 2pt. I’ve never seen a disparity like that.

An 89-55 throttling of a Ball State team picked to finish third in the MAC tonight. Fleming (freshman) with 19, Hampton (freshman) with 18. Madison Parker found her stroke again tonight and drained four or five 3-pointers.

Awesome win. Now 7-1 on the year and 3-0 to begin MAC play - matching last year's MAC win tally for the full season.

It's so cool to see this program in a good spot again. The future is bright!

The entire roster of 15 got some playing time in this one. I thought some might have been injured but they just have a ton of depth and some really good players are not getting PT. At least that is what it appears like to me.

Spielman, Clerkley, Trice, M.Hill, O.Hill etc.... all seem pretty good and can hold their own. Not a bad problem to have although I would like to see a few of them get some meaningful minutes when possible. However, its hard to argue with success.

Judging from the games I've watched, Spielman and Mari Hill will always be players who get a few minutes here and there when the flow of the game calls for it. Trice is going to play a lot in the next 2-3 years. Clerkley is extremely skilled and very strong, but has to improve conditioning to run Fralick's pace, so she's probably going to start her impact next season.

Thx for the info. Its fun to watch Fralich do her thing. This freshman class is special.

Just looking thru stats it appears that rebounding could be a problem vs tall teams, Ball St. Has historically been one of those teams so it was fun to see the runaway win despite losing the rebound battle. But you’re right, this freshman group looks to be special so far.

13 steals to 1 may be the way we’ll deal w/ possible rebounding deficits, tho it was only a 40-36 edge vs. BSU.😉

I don't follow women's BBall that close but having 5'5" and 5'6" freshman starters seems amazing in itself. And so far, very successful.

Fleming is unquestionably a player that would have been at a Duke or UConn if she were 3-4 inches taller. Our gain!
