I think I love this Reece kid for Akron. Twice he's helped one of our guys up off teh floor after fouling them.

Re: vs. Akron (1/19)
How is it that every guy on their team can take a dribble or two and then sling a 1 handed pass on a dime to a shooter?
Like, ALL of them?
Man it's annoying.

And then, like clockwork, we essentially throw up all over ourselves.
Bad turnovers, bad shot selection, suddenly down 10 again.
I will never understand why we insist on fighting through screens instead of going over them. Insanity. it literally always results in a wide open look for the opponent.

THAT was a shot and what Plowden did was not?

Re: vs. Akron (1/19)
Ultimately, this is a really sucky loss. If you're going to hold a good team to roughly 30% shooting, you can't lose that game, especially at home, if you have any hope of winning a conference title.
This was awful. No other way to say it. There will be no moral victories from me tonight. We need more from everyone.
Quick turnaround - bounce back on Thursday in Oxford. We need to go on a run here if we want to have a shot in the end to win the MAC.

That was a kicked ball that they ignored, then called us for a foul while people tried to pick the ball up.
WTF is with these guys?

WTH is it with BG vs Akron?! They have now won 30 of the past 34 games against us!!!.....30 of 34.....Never would I imagine seeing that lopsided of a series vs any MAC opponent. It's beyond incredible...

If you had told me Matheny was going to hit 3 threes, and we were going to hold Jackson well in check, I would have assumed a strong win.

Re: vs. Akron (1/19)
I remember that when Northern left the MAC for a bit in the 80's, we considered bringing Akron in to replace them. Ultimately it was decided they were not good enough. We were like 5-0 all time v them at that point.
It pisses me off that they have so clearly and thoroughly surpassed us.

Re: vs. Akron (1/19)
In general, I'd guess that Akron has had much better coaching than BG over that time, and (obviously) a much better basketball program. When your program DNA is success, and each successive coaching hire is a good one, the program is going to continue to be successful, too.
Sadly, we at BG have no idea what that kind of sustained success feels like, and I doubt very much we'll ever have it under Huger. Many of us have had our doubts about him as a coach, but we kept hoping he'd grow and ultimately be the guy who brings home the title that breaks the drought. Games like this and the one against Ball St. only reinforce the opposite view.

I've kinda stopped watching. I don't believe in this team and think it's lame we didn't try to get someone to transfer in.
Re: vs. Akron (1/19)
Okay, so WTH is Huger seeing during a game like this that we are not? We came into this game averaging 82 ppg on 44% shooting while allowing our opponents 73 ppg on 44% shooting. Tonight, we scored just 57 point (way, way below our average) on a poor 33% shooting (way under our average) and allowed 69 points (under our average) while holding Akron to 37% shooting (also below our average). And what does Huger say after the game??? He says, "Tough game. We have to do a better job defensively and we have to do a better job rebounding. All the credit to Akron. They did a really good job. We have to execute much better."
Yes, Akron grabbed 10 more rebounds than we did, and I agree we needed to be better on the boards. But why, why, why does he constantly focus and harp on defense even after games like this when we suck offensively??? We were outscored 12-2 in the final 7 minutes to close out the first half, and then were outscored 24-12 in the final 8 minutes of the second half, and had some brutal shooting stitches and multiple droughts throughout the game. And yet, he still avoids talking about the poor offense and calls out the defense. I don't get it, we scored 25 points below our season average while shooting 11% worse than our average, while holding our opponent to both points and shooting below our averages, and yet this was a defensive problem? I completely disagree with him. The main reason we lost this game mainly had to do with our offense, not our defense. And yet, year after year, game after game, he avoids talking about when we are poor offensively and always goes the defensive route. I don't get it.

Re: vs. Akron (1/19)
Because defense creates offense. What I will put out there is that we need a big. If we had Mattos right now we’d be a level higher but we don’t have him. We desperately need an athletic 5. I’m with you Globe, they are out there and we need to get one. If we did, we’d steamroll the MAC
Re: vs. Akron (1/19)
And you should all believe in this team. A GREAT group of kids and a GREAT coach and GREAT staff. We have seen progression every year and if this freshman team class isn’t evidence of that, well I guess some will never be satisfied adding in the difficulties of Covid I guarantee you, if this staff isn’t picked off this year, they will next.
