Scotty Miller & The Super Bowl
Just wanted to post something positive for BG today! Go get 'em, Scooter!!!
Re: Scotty Miller & The Super Bowl
I was actually just thinking today, BG currently has an active player in all four major sports leagues right now (Scotty Miller, Richaun Holmes, Jon Berti, Ryan Carpenter). I assume that has happened for BG before but has to be pretty rare, right?

Re: Scotty Miller & The Super Bowl
Was hoping Scotty would get more action. Had an end around for lost yds early, don’t think he was targeted at all, but did throw a couple of nice blocks on run plays. Was on field for first and last plays. Don’t know if we’ve EVER had that happen before.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Officially a starter in tonight's game! Didn't see much action but he's earned and getting a Super Bowl ring!

Really happy and proud for Scotty. Wish the game was a bit more competitive.

Re: Scotty Miller & The Super Bowl
I met him on a practice visit momentarily, but never watched him in BG game action-before my time. Was he a stand out dominant guy for BG? Was he expected by this forum to be a Pro? Curious if his current NFL trajectory was expected by most here, or if this is a surprise?
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
Re: Scotty Miller & The Super Bowl
His speed was something I have never seen at BG before or since. No one in the country could keep up with him, which lead to his biggest games being against teams like Oregon and Georgia Tech. I figured he'd get a UDFA look for his speed alone, but I thought best case scenario was a season or two on a practice squad. His hands were decent but never at the level of Freddie Barnes or Roger Lewis (just pulling from recent names). I never would have guessed he'd be a legit contributor for a playoff team with an already stacked WR corp.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 11:29 am I met him on a practice visit momentarily, but never watched him in BG game action-before my time. And it was also a total shock that he got drafted. He didn't even attend the combine. Every year there are 20-30 drafted players that didn't go to the combine, but generally if you don't get an invite you're an after thought. Of course he ran that 4.32 at the BG pro day, and that had to put him on the map for TB.BillyLP wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 12:00 pmHis speed was something I have never seen at BG before or since. He had good, but not great production here, on some awful teams. I remember he was ridiculed for some drops and for putting up yards when we were already losing the games. We've definitely had WRs who put up more impressive stats and did it on better teams with better offenses. But he was (in my memory) the first of our big time WRs to go out and show NFL speed/athleticism. He also benefits from the NFL rules getting tighter and tighter, in terms of what DBs get away with. Miller is lightning, but he's so small...15 years ago he probably wouldn't have gotten this opportunity. (also helps to be the over the top deep threat in an offense loaded with other threats and the GOAT at QB)

He was indeed slight sized in person. I was going to look up if he was at the Combine, but you answered. Funny how some players get spotted and make it , out of nowhere sometimes. My older son played against a Local DB in HS We never heard much of, and was amazed he got a take offer from OSU..... Re: Scotty Miller & The Super Bowl
If you told me after all the great receivers that have come through BG from the pair decade that just one would take hold on a team and win a Super Bowl, here's the guess list in order ...
- Kamar Jorden
- Gehrig Deiter
- Roger Lewis
- Ryan Burbrink
- Ronnie Moore
- Scotty Miller
Everyone above Miller on the list had an advantage - QB play. Even Jorden benefited from better QB play. Miller was stuck with Knapke, Morgan, and Doege, all of which were wildly inconsistent at BG. So Miller just never got to show his full potential. And the one year he had Matt Johnson around, he was a true freshman stuck under a stacked WR corps ahead of him.

Re: Scotty Miller & The Super Bowl
Honestly I probably would have put Teo Redding on that list, maybe above Scotty as well. He didn't have Miller's production, and played on those same awful offenses, but he also had a nice pro day (running mid 4.4), with much more prototypical size and good vert jump numbers. But most notably, if anybody remembers, his senior year he was a SC top 10 catch highlight reel. His hands and ball skills to highpoint stuff were just fantastic.
NFL Projections are just so weird. Going back to the previous decade Steve Sanders stuck around NFL camps and even played some regular season games. He was never even the best WR on the Falcons, was actually 3rd fiddle most of his time here.

Re: Scotty Miller & The Super Bowl
I think Cole Magner could have made it in today’s NFL. He stuck around in camp for awhile but never made an active roster.
