vs. Kent State (2/10)

Post by mbenecke »

Following a great double digit win against Ohio, our Falcons (14-4, 10-3 MAC) will head to eastern Ohio tonight to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes (7-3, 6-1 MAC). The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm, and it will be broadcast on ESPN+.

We are a real factor in the hunt for the regular season MAC title, and this is a great opportunity against the top-ranked team in the standings. This is the first of 2 heavyweight battles with Kent State, so it's important for us to win tough games like this to give ourselves a shot to win the MAC this year.

MAC WBB standings, which look weird due to an uneven number of games played:

1. Kent State 6-1
2. Bowling Green 10-3

3. Northern Illinois 8-3
4. Buffalo 7-3
5. CMU 9-4
6. Ohio 8-5
7. EMU 6-4
8. Ball State 7-5
9. Toledo 4-8
10. Akron 2-10
11. WMU 1-11
12. Miami 1-12

Go Falcons - Beat Kent!

Huge game against a good team. Is there anything in place for what the seeding will look like if, say, Kent plays nine league games and BG plays 16? will it be based on number of wins or win percentage?

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

I *think* that you have to play a minimum of 10 MAC games to be eligible for the tournament. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be available anywhere on the radio.

HALFTIME: Kent State leads, 33-32.

Heck of a contest so far. Gotta keep battling and take advantage of opportunities. Also need to clean up on the glass - they've snagged 7 offensive boards so far, and I do think their height could be giving us some issues on the inside. They're also 10/15 from the line, while we're just 5/6, so we need to limit giving them free chances here in the 2nd half.

Overall, I'm fairly pleased with our play. Time to take our best shot and win the ballgame here in the final 20.

Hempfling, Hampton, Lewis, and Perry all have 2 fouls as we begin the 2nd half. Let's hope they play solid defense without fouling here in the 2nd half.

Hempfling has picked up her 4th foul with 3 minutes to play in the third quarter. Brutal.

END OF THREE: Kent leads, 54-49.

Offensive rebounds and 2nd chance points are killing us. They have 12 offensive boards and 13 second chance points. We just can't survive all the extra chances we're giving up. Absolutely must clean that up if we're going to steal a win on the road here.

4:10 to play, Kent leads 64-63.

Hempfling to the line to finish an and-one opportunity after the break. Going to be a photo finish here.

Hempfling fouls out with 2:30 to go with the game tied at 66. Brutal. That was a pretty soft call.

1:06 to go, the game is tied at 70.

We had gone up 70-67, but Kent just drilled a three to knot the score.

We have the ball coming out of a timeout.
