Heroic, Historic Reimold Performance
In his last game at Anderson, John Reimold was absolutely heroic. He carried our team today--of that there should be no doubt. Without him, BSU is heading to Cleveland and it isn't close.
He scored 38 points, the second highest ever in a MAC tourney game. He simply took over the team, racing around the court around double teams and hitting shots when he had to.
It was an exciting game. Falcon fans should keep it in perspective. Yes, this team worked hard to make the Gund, and they deserve credit. Yes, many of us thought they would win single digits, and they now have 18 wins and that's a good year. Its also true that tonight we barely beat a team on our floor that played all of the game without their second best scorer and most of the game without their #1 scorer. And they still had a chance to tie it at the end.
Having said that, the best memory tonight is the one John Reimold left us with. What a performance for him.

I wish I could have seen that. That's the most points that have been scored by a BG player in quite sometime. I don't think Keith ever got quite that many. I am kind of frightened to think who is going do the scoring next year with him and Almanson gone. But I will leave that for another day as we make it to Cleveland again.
3 more wins to go!! I'm so sick of having to refer to a year in the late 60's

I was *just* about to break that stat out.kdog27 wrote: That's the most points that have been scored by a BG player in quite sometime. I don't think Keith ever got quite that many.
McLeod had 42 in a game in '02, Jay Larranaga had 40, AD had 38 in games in '97.
38 points is where the media guide cuts it off.
What a performance by JR!

For the record, McLeod's 42 came on Jan. 12, 2002 against Buffalo.
Reimold is the fifth player since 1977 to score 38 or more in a game (those listed above plus Keith Taylor's 39 in '85).

I think that McLeod game was at Buffalo in early 2002. He must have made 20 free throws that night. I wish JR could have got a shot off on the last trip to get 40. He had the look tonight like no one was going to keep his team from winning.TG1996 wrote:McLeod had 42 in a game in '02, Jay Larranaga had 40, AD had 38 in games in '97.

That thought has been nagging me for a while now too...who is gonna score next year when Almanson and JR are gone? Guess we'll find out.
CLEVELAND<HERE WE COME AGAIN!!
BG, Kent, Miami and Marshall are the only teams to advance to the Gund since the tourney moved to the North Coast.

I am concerned that there will not be a reliable go to guy. It seems like these guys are too streaky. I think there are games where they will score a bunch but I'm worried there will be games where they don't show up at all.mossmaidi wrote:I think Floyd and Wright will have to pick up the scoring next year. Yeah, the lack of reliable go-to guys has me worried too. Overall, I think that the scoring punch will be there, just on different levels on different nights. Here are my guesseson scoring averages next year.kdog27 wrote:I am concerned that there will not be a reliable go to guy. It seems like these guys are too streaky. Wright 20ppg
Soler 10ppg
Floyd 9ppg
Vandermeer 9ppg
Robinson 9ppg
The best thing we could do is work 10-11 guys into the lineup so that we're not overly dependent on a fewer number of guys for points.

Hey, I like Floyd as well but I am not ready to annoint him the 2nd coming of Brandon Pardon...Pardon ran the offense almost to perfection. Pardon was one of the best PG's I've seen in some time.mossmaidi wrote:I think Floyd and Wright will have to pick up the scoring next year. Floyd has work to do but has shown some flashes of brilliance.

It will take 25 shots a game for Steven Wright to average 20 next year.......
Let's stop talking about next year and start talking about this week. We have beatable opponent in Miami on Thursday night and we should have a good contingent of Cleveland-based alumni at the Gund. Moon, Floyd, Wright, Vandermeer, Soler, Montgomery, and Eyink have to give Reimold and Almanson a break in Cleveland. They have to knock down some open shots and taken some pressure off the two All-MAC guys. It would be great if JR could get 38 every night at the Gund, but it probably won't happen. If he gets it going, you never know, though.

Thanks Mike. I loathe playing Ball State cuz we never seem to match up well with the Cards. With your top two guys gone, you still almost beat us.mikespicer wrote:Get Reimold the hell out of here. Congrats on the victory. Best of luck in Cleveland.
Thank goodness we don't have to see BSU again until next winter.
BEAT MIAMI!

If that's true we're screwed. Floyd was an above average HS player in a very down year of the city league. Now he's an absolutely horrendous defender who makes some of the dumbest plays at PG. Now the guy has begun even flopping on the offensive side of the floor...don't try explaining that to me.mossmaidi wrote: I personally think Floyd is going to have a breakout year next year as he will be the 2nd option on offense. John Floyd and Brandon Pardon should never be mentioned in the same breath. Brandon had quick feet, great ball skills, and saw the floor better than anyone I've seen in a BG uni in quite some time.
My cousin has better ball handling ability than Floyd and she's in 8th grade. Don't believe me go check out BG's 8th grade girls team, I'm not kidding.
