MAC Quarterfinals: vs. Akron (3/11)
Re: MAC Quarterfinals: vs. Akron (3/11)
I feel bad for everyone in the Twitter echo chamber who allowed Bob & Kit to convince them they had a championship level coach. Another decade, another mediocre coach in BGSU history.

This coaching experiment has to end.

The mercy killing is over. Sad to go out this way, but just like the Cubs, there's always next year

Akron wins, 74-67.
The NCAA tournament drought has reached 53 consecutive seasons. Here's hoping we can get things figured out and break it next year.

Let me think, it took a winning season by Larranaga to get him out, 10 years of Dakich to expire his contract, 7 ears of Louie Orr to expire his contract, 1 year of alcohol abuse to terminate Jans, and what do we have 3 more years of Huger or a remarkable season to dump Huger. What a sad resume of BGSU men's basketball.

Yeah next year looks like we'll have to play ten games against findlay and Lourdes to get to our customary 15 wins
Re: MAC Quarterfinals: vs. Akron (3/11)
Hats off to Plowden and C Turner for keeping us in this with the rest of the team laying an egg. I know the coaching staff never sets these guys up for success but that was a pitiful performance from the rest of the team.

I feel for those of you who invest in this program every year. It's frustrating as a casual observer, can't imagine how difficult it is to be all in.
Have great facilities and received a financial commitment to help the program out and it's still the same story. University deserves better. Huger would be wise to take the Fordham gig.

It's agony man. We just can't win this F'in thing. No matter when, no matter what. We've had 41 years to win one, just ONE, and can't. Oh, by the way, to no one's surprise, aside from being the only team in the MAC not to win a MAC Tournament, BG also now officially has the worst winning percentage by any MAC school in the event as this loss just dropped BG below NIU for dead last.hammb wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 8:39 am I'm as die hard as die hard gets when it comes to BG Hoops, but I'm right there with 33.
Those that sit around me at the games, we all have a running joke. We love BG hoops, but we know that we are just the definition of futility when it comes to actually winning anything of consequence. The real pain is just how much regular season (and individual player) success we've had over those decades of futility. You could make a case for BG producing as much basketball talent as anybody in the MAC, but it never gets us anywhere.
We had a starting lineup of Brandon Pardon, Keith McLeod, Len Matela, Brent Klassen, and Cory Ryan. That team was basically together for 3 years (other than Ryan), and they started off by having those guys rotate in with the likes of Anthony Stacey and Dave Esterkamp. That's a metric s**t ton of MAC talent.
To show for it we made one solitary trip to the MAC finals, against the greatest MAC team ever (prior to UB, anyhow). Sigh...knowing our history against Akron I think this season will finally dribble the last bit of piss out tomorrow and we can add Plowden & Turner to the long list of top tier BG players that can't get this thing over the hump.
GO BG!!!

I will not be donating another dime until a better coach is found. I’m tired of throwing good money after bad.
Re: MAC Quarterfinals: vs. Akron (3/11)
I’ll reiterate the overriding theme. Bowling Green administration is allowed to hire and extend mediocre coaches over and over without actually accomplishing anything. Twitter has benefited Huger more than anyone. Create an illusion and don’t be shocked when it’s a failure.

I'll have to disagree with you a bit: the university has done this to itself. All these basketball wounds are completely and totally self-inflicted. They've misused the Frack money totally, and there was absolutely no reason to extend Huger's contract; he had not earned it. Now they'll be mired in mediocrity for several more years; and at least two of them will be with a lame duck coach that everyone knows is a lame duck coach.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:12 pm I feel for those of you who invest in this program every year. Nobody who has followed BG men's basketball for any length of time was surprised by tonight's result or the tremendous egg laid by this team during the regular season.

I've been associated with this program since 1993. I tried walking on to the team as a sophomore, and when I didn't make it, I volunteered with the program as a student manager. Since then, I've traveled across the country to watch this team play all over the place, I've donated money, and made countless trips back to BG. We've had a number of great players, teams and wins during that time. But one thing continues to elude, and more notably, haunt this program. It can't win the MAC Tournament, and thus, can't get back to the NCAA Tournament. I've watched us fail 28 out of the 41 years to do it. And I'm all but convinced I'm never going to see it happen in my lifetime no matter how much longer I live. While that might sound dramatic, it's really not when you look at what happens to this program in the MAC Tournament.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:12 pm I feel for those of you who invest in this program every year.
