MAC Quarterfinals: vs. Akron (3/11)
Re: MAC Quarterfinals: vs. Akron (3/11)
I've covered the MAC Tournament for the last 22 years. In a lot of those years, I didn't think we had the talent to win this thing. I thought other teams had better players. But I don't feel that way this year. We had as much talent as anybody I watched play today. That means it can only be one problem. Coaching.

Jim Elsasser’s kid played in a MAC Tournament game for the preseason favorite who lost in the 1st round. That doesn’t happen anywhere but Bowling Green State University.

While we've suffered through many tough ends to a season, this one is right up at the top as arguably one the most disappointing seasons ever. Justin Turner came back, BG was picked to not only win the MAC, but also the MAC Tournament, and we end up as the #6 seed and bounced in the first day.
GO BG!!!

On the bright side, if there is one, Lauren Prochaska can breathe easier. Turner ends with 2070, 220 less than Lauren.
Sure, not the same... I mean it's only women's basketball. Why just any guy could clearly make 61 consecutive free throws, right?

Bring in a new AD this summer....let him or her spend the next 12-24 months on fundraising and evaluating the FB and MBB programs. We aren’t getting rid of anyone more than a year early, but at least you can have someone ready to make a hire if necessary. Do you trust Moosbrugger to make any more hiring or firing decisions? I don’t.

Did Caleb Fields play 15 minutes for real?

We went 3-23 from 3?
Re: MAC Quarterfinals: vs. Akron (3/11)
Came out post game that Justin Turner was playing with a strained hamstring. It's a wonder that he could even bring the ball up the court. Best of luck to him healing up and preparing for a long pro career.

Kudos to Juice for attempting to gut it out. It was obvious that he wasn't himself and was hurting. Sucks to have to play the tournament without our #1 option anywhere close to 100%. Heck he might not have been 60% to be honest.
The 3-23 stat doesn't surprise me at all. Very few of our deep attempts were on catch and shoot looks from ball movement. I'd wager at least 12-15 of those were just whoever had the ball chucking it from wherever he happened to be at the time. I really think we've wasted the talents of guys like Frye and Diggs, and potentially Matheny in the future. Rather than getting them the ball in their spot it's all too often, here's the ball try to make a 3. Just makes no sense...

One thing I have not seen mentioned - i nthe first 15-20 years of the MAC tourney, if the regular season winner did not win the tourney, they almost always went to the NCAA anyway.
I kept track for a while then gave up. The 1st four times the NCAA did NOT take our regular season champ, three of them were us.
It's not just that we failed in the MAC tourney, it's ALSO that the NCAA did not value us like they did the other teams in the league. Even when we were actually playing just as well as any of them.

THis is a direct result of doing what Huger wants on offense. All the dribble handoffs in the world don't do a damn thing if nobody ever cuts back door. The PnR does no good if the pick man never rolls, or if he does, nobody ever looks to pass to him. For that matter, we have capable pick and pop guys - and we never have them pop. The screen man just stands there, allowing the defense to swarm the ballhandler.hammb wrote: ↑Fri Mar 12, 2021 8:53 am Kudos to Juice for attempting to gut it out. Lat night Juice and Young did a PnR. Juice got jammed up because there is NO reason to ever do anything else when defending us. Young rolled - wide open into the middle of the lane. It just so happened that this ONE time, juice gave it up quickly enough that Matheny found Young inside. Plowden made a cut, Young found him - dunk.
We have the players to find open guys. Our coach will not let us run an offense that actually creates open looks.

I get it’s disappointing but many of these posts are off. Sure there was a ton of talent, but we had absolutely no big man. Basketball requires an inside presence of some kind, it’s the same reason we overachieved with Richaun Holmes. He opened the court for everyone else. Likewise we didn’t have that this year
Re: MAC Quarterfinals: vs. Akron (3/11)
It's been 9 years for me and I'm tired of losing already. Besides plowden the team wasn't ready to play without a 100% Turner and it showed. Without a real offense we needed 2 guys to go off but only 1 did. Needed Diggs, metheny, and fulcher to step up more.
Watching the women's team move the ball especially against a zone is impressive after watching the men last night

Exactly why this team was better with WigginsBgsu2016 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 12, 2021 10:50 am I get it’s disappointing but many of these posts are off.
