NCAA Tournament Watch

Post by jpfalcon09 »

Good place to post newsworthy information regarding bubble teams for the NCAA tournament. First nugget comes this afternoon as Clarkson is shutting down the rest of their season due to players breaking covid protocol.

ECAC only down to three schools now with Quinnipiac the likely favorite to win the league tournament, if they have one.

They should realistically just have Quinnipiac be their champion and go, right? It would absolutely suck for one of the other 2 to steal a bid from a 3-team league this season.

You'd think so. Would be a sham if Colgate or St. Lawrence got in having a losing record all year long.

Then why would any team with a losing record qualify for league playoffs? If Quinnipiac deserves to be in the Tournament, they will win their next game. They shouldn't be in if they lose.

The point I was making is that neither of those teams deserves to be in because they aren’t playing a legitimate tournament. They have 3 teams in their league.

It would be just awful for St. Lawrence or Colgate to get it through a sham “tournament” while BG battles through a WCHA tournament featuring 5 ranked teams.

Bentley has withdrawn from the Atlantic Hockey tournament so AIC has automatically advanced to the next round. AIC hasn't played a game since January.

Omaha lost to Denver this afternoon which likely knocks them out of tournament contention.

Penn State upsets Notre Dame. Irish season is likely over. Unless PSU, OSU, or MSU win the tournament then the Big Ten are only getting in three teams.

I'm paying attention to this stuff here.

Is there a reason Denver should get in? I've seen a lot of chatter about them having now earned an at-large bid in the last day or so, but I just don't see it. They're 10-12-1, and they're likely about to lose to North Dakota on Monday night. Why on earth would they get in over a 20+ win team like us?

I know the perception that the NCHC is superior exists, but at some point your record and the number of wins you have has to matter, right?

It's purely the smoke-filled room that they would get in. No team with a losing record should even be considered for an at-large.

Unfortunately the losing record caveat was thrown out this year so there's potential to get the power brokers in college hockey to the tournament despite a poor season. It's a big reason why BG, even with a 20-win season, probably need to win at least Sunday's game to get a closer look.

That's a really interesting one, but CHN thinks they're a lock - despite only playing 15 games and being 10-4-1.

They're saying there's 4 spots left for the following teams to fight for:

UConn 10-10-2, up to 3 games left
Providence 10-8-5, up to 3 games left
Bowling Green 20-10-1, up to 3 games left
Lake Superior State 17-6-3, up to 2 games left
Bemidji State 15-8-3, up to 2 games left
Robert Morris 15-8-0, up to 3 games left
Michigan Tech 17-12-1, no games left
Omaha 14-10-1, no games left

Providence and UConn play each other today, so that feels like somewhat of an elimination game, to me.

A deep run by Lowell will move them ahead of any WCHA bubble team. That's a given with the east coast bias.

I'm just tired of that garbage. I mean, they have 8 wins. No way they should even be in the conversation.
