VanGorder is here, and we are doomed. Vangorder is gone, we are doomed.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
Re: VanGorder
Baseless speculation for a new DC. Ron English. He is coaching DBs at Purdue. He is a great DC. If he's interested in getting back to calling the defense rather than position coach, he could be a great pick.

Re: VanGorder
English would be a good choice...and given his Lloyd Carr pedigree...logical for Loeffler.

Re: VanGorder
CB Coach Lewis appears to be taking over as the DC. Keep the continuity. Kids on D like him, and are glad. He ran D again Buffalo when we were in it a while. Simplifying it, which was the problem with it.

Re: VanGorder
A pretty solid (lengthy?) resume for an internal hire, I'd say. At minimum, he's called plays before and coached at both the NFL and the Power 5 level.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 12:05 pm CB Coach Lewis appears to be taking over as the DC. The last DC to stay for more than 2 years was Mike Elko from 2009 to 2013. Unbelievable.

Cato June is being hired according to Nick P. this morning.

Re: VanGorder
That is not the ST coordinator. Maybe he filling other spot for internal DC? Lewis had CB’s and Scoonie had safeties.....

Re: VanGorder
That's what makes sense to me. He was a Super Bowl champion with the Colts as a linebacker after being a safety in college, so I'd imagine he'll be coaching DBs here, after coaching OLBs at UMass last season.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 9:27 am That is not the ST coordinator. Re: VanGorder
Just read in his Bio Coach Lewis Dad is Sherm Lewis of NFL fame. Pretty good pedigree.
I think we are better today then we were at the end of season 2020; coaching wise, training, practice and scheme. I look at these as steps forward.

Re: VanGorder
I had to laugh at this bullet in Lewis' bio: In his lone season at EMU, Lewis' team allowed just 150.1 yards per game passing, the fewest yards allowed in the nation.
True. That is true. But before patting the back too hard you should look at their rushing yards yielded. Teams could pass if they wanted to but why bother passing if you can run for 300+? There's a reason EMU went 0-12 in 2009. Well actually a lot of reasons. BTW the first year HC at EMU in 2009 was Ron English who I speculated to be a good choice for DC.
That was over a decade ago. Hopefully Lewis has learned a lot about being a DC since and can be a step forward for the defense.
