MAC Transfers
Re: MAC Transfers
No longer a MAC guy but Nelly Cummings is in the portal at Colgate.
Re: MAC Transfers
He had a great year. Wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to upgrade conferences for increased exposure. I'd look for him to land somewhere in the A-10 or Big East.

He looked slow and doughy at first.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 12:19 pmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bie73G2AuZIBillyLP wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 11:44 am Again, not a MAC guy, but someone we once recruited: Isaiah Poor Bear-Chandler is in the portal from Wichita State. Strong 6-9 post player for a good WSU team that was beat out for minutes by a smaller, more athletic lineup. Has a pretty good mid-range shot and good feet. He's a similar frame to Swingle except he actually leaves his feet and snags some good rebounds.
Go get him
Then I kept watching.
Dude is AGGRESSIVE about getting his dunks. Has really good hands and can make adjustments in the air to complete the oop. Has a nice jumper. Knows where he needs to be in space so he can get to the rim and finish a play.
I would LOVE him on our team.
If he can defend even as well as Washington did, he'd start for us isntantly.

MAC player-of-the-year Marreon Jackson now in the portal.

I saw a few glimpses of him in there. Making good plauys catching the ball and finishing immediately. Not dunking with dominance - but this is D1 not HS so OK. Still, looked for teh ball, caught the damn ball, and finished with it.
Also - looked thicc, not doughy. THis is a good thing.

Re: MAC Transfers
So is my math correct: doesn't this make five players total from that team leaving for whatever reasons? I saw a story that three others were in the portal before the news on Johnson and now Strack. That seems like a lot for a team that has had recent success. Not that I care; they can all leave and end up with a bunch of middle school players and I'd be quite happy.

Not sure, I haven't paid close attention to their numbers. I saw they had a couple of their bigs transferring, but they never played anybody big anyhow, so that could be as much a philosophy as anything.Falconwriter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 8:38 amSo is my math correct: doesn't this make five players total from that team leaving for whatever reasons? Personally I think Kowalczyk is a decent coach, but he's been there 10 years now. He's in the same boat as Huger (albeit different reasons), IMO. One of the only joys I get in March basketball is the fact that UT's futility is nearly as long lasting (and painful) as ours has been. Much like Huger, Kowalczyk is quite likely NOT the coach to break that run, but he is a good enough coach/recruiter to keep putting them in position that it LOOKS like it'll be the year over and over again.
I don't study his teams close enough to know what his specific issues are, but every year they seem in good position to make a run in the MAC tourney and they fail to do so; oftentimes losing as the higher seed. I know our issues are largely an unwillingness to completely build our roster, and a complete lack of cohesive offensive identity. I'm sure if you watched them closely enough you'd see that UT has some perennial fatal flaw as well, I just don't know what it is.
Bottom line, they've had regular season success, but much like us, they fail miserably in March over and over again, so I don't really find it all that surprising if they start seeing defections as well. No way that fanbase (definitely larger than ours) is happy with him being there so long and not seeing the dance. I think in that expenditures figures thread they actually spend LESS on hoops than we do, and that's with Kowalczyck's salary being quite a bit more than Huger's. I'm guessing their players don't all have a $10k "equipment" budget to spend...LOL
Re: MAC Transfers
Tyler Cochran in the portal for NIU. Had a great season despite missing a chunk due to COVID. I believe he was their leading or second-leading scorer.

Re: MAC Transfers
Jason Carter, who transferred from Ohio to Xavier a couple years ago, is transferring back to Ohio! Ohio is going to be untouchable in the MAC next year? Preston is a future NBA player and will be the MAC Player of the Year next season, BVP is back and Wilson announced he’s returning (and they’re both first team worthy), and now you add Jason Carter - a MAC Player of the Year candidate himself - back to the mix! And you also add in their bench. This team will be better than the Buffalo team from a couple years ago. The rest of the MAC has zero chance next season. None whatsoever. Our three-year window was slammed shut so it’s a mute point for BG anyway. But for BG and the rest of the MAC, it’s already over. Ohio will destroy the rest of the MAC and will own the conference. They’re going to be scary good.
GO BG!!!
Re: MAC Transfers
Jason Carter will certainly give Ohio more depth in the post. Coach Boals will have to work to keep them all happy.

Re: MAC Transfers
The biggest challenge for Ohio is that as a MAC school they need to be very highly ranked or one loss in the MAC tournament cancels their big dance.
If anyone thinks the rest of the MAC is going to roll over in Cleveland for OU's '22 Dance card they haven't followed the MAC very long.
