Offseason Thread
Re: Offseason Thread
Not much I can do for you if you think the WCHA schedule is difficult....
Re: Offseason Thread
Didn't ask you to do anything for me. It's quite obvious you've never competed for a league/points championship before. Especially one that involves 28 events.
Teams are scheduling for a better path at the tournament. Who you play doesn't matter as much as winning out of conference games, and your league opponents winning their out of conference games. Doesn't matter who they play, as long as they win those games.

Trying not to quote the troll for those who have him on block.
For the past 3 years we've taken care of OOC business; we've convincingly beaten (very) good teams (my point). That's put us in the hunt every year (pdt's point). But every year we throw up on ourselves in Jan/Feb (everybody else's point). Which is what the discussion has been about. In this context SoS is meaningless. But, apparently that's the hill you want to die on so go get 'em, sparky.
I typed that as slowly as I could, not sure it will help.

Re: Offseason Thread
Throwing up on ourselves wouldn't be such a problem if other teams would take care of business out of conference. The teams scheduling the lower teams in the WCHA are doing so for the Pairwise implications. Beat them and hope they manage to steal a game from a top team in the league.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 8:31 am Trying not to quote the troll for those who have him on block.

Call me a troll all you want...despite certain people acting like I don’t know what I’m talking about...I’m proven correct over and over.
I’ll admit I was definitely wrong about this season...at Christmas I didn’t think there was much chance of them missing the NCAA tournament. I have lower expectations because I know we really aren’t that good. We usually have above avg goaltending, skate well enough, and play fairly hard. In the WCHA that is usually enough to be a top 4 team despite a lack of skill. I definitely didn’t see the team completely packing it in after the Mankato series and playing that poorly. So that I was wrong about....

At least I got you to stop beating your SoS dead horse. On behalf of the sane crowd I'll claim that as a victory.

Re: Offseason Thread
To say finishing poorly wouldn't matter if other teams do well (conference foes, out of conference foes) is ridiculous. Teams that lose more than they win down the stretch are not going to get an at-large berth to the NCAA in hockey (and probably not in most sports). The first thing this program has to do is finish strong, in conference and out. Then they have to hope they either win the auto bid or have beaten enough quality opponents that they get selected. Being in a new/old conference this coming year won't help the cause, because its strength will remain unknown for a few years.

You need to familiarize yourself with the Pairwise. Then go look at the NCHC out of conference schedules and records. There's a reason they can finish their league schedule with a .500 record and still make the NCAA Tournament. It's because top to bottom they do well out of conference. And it's not just because they are scheduling against the top teams.Falconwriter wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 2:43 pm To say finishing poorly wouldn't matter if other teams do well (conference foes, out of conference foes) is ridiculous. Re: Offseason Thread
Last I heard was a few weeks ago. He's still not 100% from his injury and thus no decision has been made. Don't know a timetable or much else outside of that.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Offseason Thread
Purely speculative. He's a year into a Masters. My bet is if he can secure/procure some sort of scholarship or other financial aid that will cover most, if not all, his tuition, he will play another year. If he can't, he will most likely go in search of something that pays (pro contact, career job, etc).jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 3:40 pmLast I heard was a few weeks ago. Gonna suck seeing Cullen in red and white. I was hoping to avoid seeing any of the grads come through the Slate.
