It's not confusing. All NCAA athletes were granted a redshirt this season. That gives them a 5th year of eligibility. Any athlete who chooses to use their 5th year of eligibility at the school they played this season, can be granted an athletic scholarship that is exempt from the total number allowed. Giving an athletic scholarship to a transfer counts against the allowable number. The players staying here for their 5th season do not count against the scholarship limit.

Everything I have seen has been really simple, which seems strange for the NCAA.

Hmmmm. Diggs and Plowden do not count against I scholarship total. So, we have 11 commitments for next year:

I never understood why JW didn't get more floor time over Swingle. He is an adequate MAC post player.
