Offseason Thread
Re: Offseason Thread
No mention of Toledo Winterfest. There are a few open weekends to add the traditional games with Western. I think Jerry York owes us a couple games, too.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

I like the nonconference schedule. Home and homes with Ohio State and Miami? That works for me. We can do that every year as far as I'm concerned.

I am fine with the opponents. I just wish that the RPI series was a home series to balance out the short end of the league schedule. Playing only 14 games out of 34 total at home just plain stinks.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 3:05 pm I like the nonconference schedule. Home and homes with Ohio State and Miami? BTW it's been reported by Mike McMahon that BG will play Providence at the Holiday Faceoff and then either Wisconsin or Yale in the second game, depending on result.

Be curious to see if RPI comes to BG next season for two games.Hockey John wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 11:33 pmI am fine with the opponents. More road games do increase the chance of a higher PWR if things shake out the right way, so it's not all terrible, but only two non-conference home games really does put a damper on things.

We're talking about PWR when the 20+-wins/year streak is in jeopardy. Home ice for the first round of the playoffs will be challenging. Mankato reloaded, Bemidji only lost Driscoll, Tech's big class is another year older. Calder leaving may put a dent in the Lakers, but don't count out Potulny. Gonna be tough.
If RPI isn't in NW Ohio next year I have to ask why we'd ever bother playing them. We can do the Michigan 2-for-1 bend over for a much shorter bus trip.

The 20 wins/year is always in jeopardy. Already have to start a new first round streak next season. While the talent lost seems insurmountable, don't count out the chemistry change in the locker room. That alone could decide the fate of the season.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 9:17 am We're talking about PWR when the 20+-wins/year streak is in jeopardy. BG originally had a series at St Lawrence scheduled for last season. Obviously everything went to hell, but it will be interesting to see what will happen with that (was there a scheduled return visit already?). While not as prominent as with football, some of these non-conference games are scheduled a couple years in advance. Unfortunately, that makes them easier to get out of the return visit. Quinnipiac was probably a one and done series. I actually like the holiday tournament. Attendance at that time usually isn't something to brag about. And playing there will do more for PWR than playing the same team for two games at home.

"Hero to Zero!" That's the phrase thrown about at the start of a new fiscal year when your sales number resets.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 9:48 amThe 20 wins/year is always in jeopardy. Was the locker room chemistry really that bad?

No idea. There was something not right the second half of the season. The talent was there to make a run. Maybe it was players, maybe it was other personnel, maybe it was all the covid tests. Something went wrong, and a hard reset is sometimes needed to correct it.

Dave Smith (RPI’s head coach) was an assistant at BG in the early 2000s and played against Eigner at Ohio State. As is the case with a lot of these nonleague games there’s a relationship between the coaches. ADs don’t usually get involved until it’s time to write up the contracts.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 9:17 am We're talking about PWR when the 20+-wins/year streak is in jeopardy. I can all but guarantee there will be a RPI return trip.

In college, Dave Smith scored a goal, then his teammates piled on top to celebrate. Broke his leg.BGDrew wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 10:12 am
