I have written this before…. The recruiting visit to a Jinks practice was shocking at the lack of discipline and intensity. Like a bad high school. At OSU, Toledo and others I was afraid to step in the wrong part of the indoor facilities for fear of being made an example of….it was that kind of intense. On another important note…. Jinks had a good QB, at least for a season with Doege, and remnants of some good players from previous regime(s).

I think this is the right idea. Mike Jinks left this program in much worse shape than it was in 2000 (when Gary Blackney went 2-9) or 2008 (when Gregg Brandon went 6-6 in his last season).

Interesting that on the transfer portal, he said he would allocate around 8 scholarships per year to transfers.

This is more than I would have expected him to say. But the landscape on transfers has changed since he was hired, right?

That's a plus...shows a willingness to accept a change in circumstances and adapt

AFAIC the previous two posters are correct. This program was a dumpster fire far, far, far worse than we all knew, and Mike Jinks was the creator. When he was head coach, he had far more talent and less issues than what HE left behind for Loeffler. And no, I'm not endorsing Loeffler, either. He has to prove he has the mettle to have weathered this disaster and can come out the other side with a competitive football team.

I think when history looks back at this, you will find very few programs that have had a coach as bad as Jinks and one who left a program in as disastrous shape as it ended up because of that hire. This was a once in a generation (or more) disastrous coaching hire. You almost have to try and be this bad at hiring a coach to bring someone like Jinks on-board.

I recall Jinks saying he just needed another year to make it happen.... Now, three years later and maybe the worst D1 program in the land, this guy is saying he needs three more years to win it all....so in three years and paying him over 1million dollars over those three years we should expect nothing short of a MAC Championship.

bovada has our over/under for the season at 1.5

That's a Murry State win and a slight underdogs against Akron and Northern. Anything else would be a huge upset.

I'm actually thinking of betting the over, because crazy things happen, but anymore than 2 wins would be a shocker imho

Agreed 100%. Had sideline passes in those years, discipline and attention to detail was not there. Players routinely not paying attention to when they need to go into the game, complaining about play calling when coming back to the huddle, and a complete lack of fundamentals. Hell Jinks was barely heard from on the sidelines which is a rarity for coaches.

Folks don't realize how chaotic it is on Gameday, you've gotta have a guy who has you 100% to be ready when it's time

I don’t think the trajectory of the program is remotely close to the end of Jinks tenure - unfair compare.

I’m intrigued by the “paying him over 1million dollars over those three years” expectation. This would hold more power IF it were $1 million “more than other coaches” to draw a line of demand. We pay about the same, spend about the same and have facilities about the same as our MAC competition. Based on that I hope and expect it will be our turn to win again but the budget suggest “expectations” not absolute results. IMO
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Just read a short article in Blade about Doege at WVU, and his upward progress. Ranked a top 25 QB in The nation. Without question having a Top QB talent really covered a lot of the sins brewing at and below the surface as the consequence of the Jinks regime. Imagine had he not been here…

Had he not been here.... James Morgan would have been here. Morgan was drafted in the 4th round of the NFL Draft. He along with Scotty Miller were recruited by the coach who 'used BGSU" according to Loeffler. He used BGSU to win a championship and leave it with future NFL players. The administration abused it.

Morgan being drafted had NOTHING AT ALL to do with his time here. If you want to know what you would have seen had Doege not been here:
96 / 212 (45.3%), 1260, 9 / 7

Sub 50 percent passing. Several garbage time TDs. Interceptions at the worst time.

Then he left for FIU and a different coaching staff and magically he had a great run there. Funny how that worked.

Yep, he sucked with Jinks despite being highly rated out of high school. Doege wasn't great either. Babers used BGSU, the athletic administration led by the Kingston crew, abused BGSU.
