Projecting a 2021 Starting Lineup

Post by mbenecke »

A friend and I were discussing BG football this morning, and I came up with some semblance of a lineup for the team. I'm certain it isn't fully correct, but I'd love to hear some tips or pointers from some that have seen the team play or have heard from practice, as there are a few spots that I couldn't really pick who would be playing, as there were many "similar" players that were considered for each spot and I ultimately threw down a name that was a total guess.

So, if I’m guessing BG’s starting lineup:

QB - Matt McDonald, Sr.
RB - Terrion Stewart, RS-Fr.
WR - Javonte Kinsey, So.
WR - Jhaylin Embry, RS-Fr.
WR - Tyrone Broden, So.
TE - Christian Sims, Jr. - could also be lots of other guys here
OT - Jeremiah Banks-Wall, So.
OG - Jalen Grant, So.
C - Brian Kilbane, RS-Fr.
OG - Sam Neverov, Sr.
OT - Alex Padgett, Fr. - no idea here, we really have no other tackles with actual game experience beyond JBW... I think

DE - Karl Brooks, Jr.
DT - Walt Haire, Sr.
DT - Jevon Henderson, Jr.
DE - Jordan Porter, So. - not sure about this one
LB - Bryce Brand, Sr.
LB - Darren Anders, Jr.
LB - JB Brown, So. - did JB start last season? The website says he played in every game, but he registered just 1 single tackle. No clue here.
CB - Diata Burns, Sr.
S - Davon Ferguson, Sr.
S - Jordan Anderson, Jr.
CB - Elijah Eberhardt, RS-Fr. - this was a guess

K - Nate Needham, Sr.
P - Matt Naranjo, Sr.
LS - James Carolan, Sr.

I think you're probably pretty close to correct here. I'd look for there to be two TEs and remove Embry, because Loeffler, but who knows. I feel like I've read that Andrew Bench has done a hell of a job with his transition back to TE, both as a blocker and a pass catcher, so I could see him being TE1 or TE2.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

Obviously without injuries. Stewart and Kinsey were non-participants last week and were on the sidelines in non-contact jerseys. Unsure of their status. Grant also rolled an ankle towards the end of practice, haven't seen any update on him. I assume we'll hear about injuries next week as the team officially begins prepping for Tennessee.

Ferguson will likely start at CB (that's where he was on Saturday with 1st team defense). Dabney a good bet to take his safety spot. Brock Horne may also win out over JB Brown. Everything else looks rather accurate.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

The Offensive starting lineup will be moving target for WR, depending on packages… two TE could see Bench and Gazerik. Osborne (good player!) is starting on outside with Broden. Line remains evolving as players playing themselves out of spots. RB will split time with Stewart and Patterson. Kinsey sliding. McKinstry moving up.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
