Re: vs. South Alabama
A trick play with a Freshman wideout throwing a pass across the field is the decision a youth coach makes.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
Re: vs. South Alabama
Loeffler can't coach.
He may get them ready to play. He may be able to one day recruit a talented roster here. But dude can't coach on game days. I'd rather have my grandma calling plays and managing the clock.
I'm not anti-trick plays but when you've just hit a big play and you're already near fg range? Asinine.

Re: vs. South Alabama
That BG-UT chess match should be interesting if we ever get talented enough to compete with them. Because the way Candle handled the final minutes of that game was a damned near fireable offense.hammb wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 10:03 pm Loeffler can't coach.

Some overall thoughts ...
Lots of fun taking my kid to her first game! All the fans were so nice to her.
Players played hard on all phases. Defense ran out of steam late.
Offensive line is the weak point because if we could have run the ball, this game would have been an easy win.
McDonald played great after a rusty start.
I have two big beefs with the offensive playcalling. The trick play was a huge mistake. The offense was cooking behind the play of the QB. Why take the ball away from him? And trying to kill the clock at the end for OT ... when South Alabama had all its timeouts ... was a horrible decision. Your QB has been hitting big throws all half. Let him air it out. The wind had died down quite a bit. All you need is 55 yards in 2 minutes to give Needham a real shot.
The players played hard. Even with no run support, we had our chances. Play calling did it in ...

Re: vs. South Alabama
The trick play attempt, at that moment of the game with a good chance for BG to go up two scores - with this team - was an absolute killer. It was mind blowing to see who, what, when are where we attempted that play too. One of the worst decisions I've see in a long time. Loeffler was clearly bothered by it in the postgame - and should be. Further, the OL line problems are massive. We are starting 4 freshmen and a converted DL. It's a complete disaster and we should never, ever, ever be putting that kind of OL on the field, especially in a time where we could have gotten a transfer or two for God sake. It all starts up front and we're trying to do it with all those frosh on the OL? You're giving yourself almost no shot whatsoever doing this. Yet, Loeffler is upset that we can't run the ball? Ummm.....yeah, no $hit we can't. Who the hell could putting what we are putting out there on the OL? Look, I hate any loss. They all suck in one way shape or form. But this one pisses me off because of some of the things I put squarely on the shoulder's of our coaching staff. For all of are obstacles and limitations, these kids could and honestly should have won, and our coaching really hurt any chance of that coming to fruition. This team and program desperately needs a win and a victory today could have been a massive moral booster for all involved. Instead, it was a massive thorn in the side, no thanks to some stupid as f@#% play calling.
GO BG!!!
Re: vs. South Alabama
Sorry to think this, but if we don't beat Murray State next week I don't think we win one all season.

Re: vs. South Alabama
Watching the game on replay..went to the OSU game..my thoughts..
Neither team can catch a ball. Terrible WR play.
Not being able to get a yard on 4th and 1 was terrible.
Our offense isn't creative at all.
OH MY GAWD>>>>>>An athlete. Anders. That was amazing. Pick 6. WORKAHOLIC!
He is the first player that has stood out to me in the 2 games. Great return. If he is truly as athletic as he looked returning that ball he will play on Sundays. Fast special teams linebackers make teams. Most teams start 2 lbs now.
And of course we missed the kick
And we miss on the blitz and then leave our guy and he completes an easy pass.
First down on a dumb penalty. I know we are playing all freshman....it's obvious
Ferguson with a great stop on a run.
2 completed passes in a row. Very nice.
Osborne with an incredible catch! 2 guys running wide open!
I hate these slow developing zone reads....just boring and ineffective. I don't really want this QB running it.
Blaine Spires with a great play
Nice defensive stop. Playing great field position. This D is showing up. I think they have for 3 of the 6 Qters they played so far
Our OL is falling a part. Great wheel route but McDonald is being chased errywhere.
Snapped the ball early and no one was paying attention. So many mistakes.
DL is active. Most important thing for a DL is a motor.
8-3.....Borophyl.
Blitz? At the end of the half when we need them to stay in bounds and not give up big plays???????
Christian Sims running wide open.....Nice. (He has to switch arms, stiff arm and score)
FG-Feels like Nate Needham has been here for 10 years.
11-6....Totally normal scores.
12-11.......
Can't you just fair catch and go to the 25?
BOMB to number 86....WOWSERS
WOW....I saw a wide open guy on the sideline....got frustrated McDonald didn't hit him....and he hit the deeper guy for a TD. Best play I have ever seen McDonald make.
Eww McDonald had a great run. I take it back
Sac master......Nice
Gadget play......when we didn't need it....McDonald is slinging it. So lets let someone else play...lets get everyone involved. Who hasn't passed it yet?
I am updating my Roster spreadsheet....You mean to tell me we are starting a walk on Freshman at C and a RT who was playing DE last year? Texas St. Armadillos.....JK the line doesn't look all that terrible.
Defense has some swagger I like that.
I said last week no athletes.....Broden looks great. Sims looks great. Anders looks great. Ferguson looks great.
Our DTs are really active. Make lots of plays downfield. Have to love that.
We are getting tired. Missing tackles
They just tied it. We don't have a ton of depth.....we tired.
There is 14 minutes left on the replay so I bet we don't go to overtime......I am so excited........
10 minutes left....seems clear South Alabama will win. I blame coaching if so. That WR pass was the dumbest play at the dumbest time I have ever seen in sports. Just an atrocious call when all you needed was a FG. The playcalling overall is pretty terrible but I did like to see them pass deep.
We talk about being young but we have 6 Sr Starters, 9 if you include the STs and 5 Jrs. So that's 14 of your 25 starters as upper classmen.
OK field goal made....dumb coaching staff.

Akron and Ohio are very beatable. Murray will be a tough game, they gave Cincinnati fits for a half yesterday.

Re: vs. South Alabama
Interesting sniglet BS’ing with players last night. The highlight TD of the Game to TE Bench is never thrown to that route in practice, not even the read… so, one of our best plays was an anomaly, a mis read as designed and coached….
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
Re: vs. South Alabama
This coach is now 3-16. Not a single sign that a future quarterback is anywhere near the program. Just keep lowering the standard BGSU. You were sold Dave Clawson. It was never ever close to that.

Re: vs. South Alabama
QB? QB is the least of this team's issues. Going into the season with this OL in your third year on the job?
THAT'S the main issue
THAT'S the main issue
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: vs. South Alabama
Yes, the QB is a big issue. Loeffler proclaims in year 5 is when Bowling Green “goes to the moon”. The quarterback is a below average MAC qb, who wasn’t even threatened in camp. BG has an offensive coach who specializes in quarterbacks and they don’t have a good offense or a quarterback being developed. What’s happening is the opposite of what Loeffler is saying. It’s been that way since the beginning.

Re: vs. South Alabama
LOL. The poor QB play you claim is a direct result of the offensive line not being able to sustain blocks. The only success the team has had on offense through two games is when McDonald is rolled out of the pocket. What does that tell you? He had over 300 yards passing and zero interceptions yesterday, he's not the issue.guest44 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 8:57 am Yes, the QB is a big issue. Re: vs. South Alabama
Nobody in their right mind hired Loeffler for his expertise with QBs and offense. That may have been his background but his background was also bad at all of those things. You hired Loeffler because you thought he could be a leader, you thought his experience in the region would work in recruiting, and you were banking on his longevity as a coach and connections would be the opposite of Jinks.
Those things may all prove to be true, but yesterday really showed exactly what I have feared since day 1 with this hire. No matter how well he does in recruiting, etc, this coach doesn't know how to coach on game days. You finally got involved in a good tight game and he pissed down his leg and threw away the work the kids put in.
All that said, I also agree with Flipper. I'm not at all a McDonald fan, but entering your 3rd season with this OL is inexcusable. It's by far the biggest weakness on offense. And in an era where you can basically go into the transfer portal and find guys to come compete. This isn't the NFL. There is no salary cap. There is no benefit to forcing yourself to only play "homegrown" talent. You owe it to your seniors and your fans to maximize wins every season. Here we are in his 3rd season and he can still cry woe is me because we have to start a true freshman (walkon at that) at center.
