2021-2022 Preseason Poll

Post by mbenecke »

The 2021-2022 CCHA Preseason Poll has been released, and it's about as expected.

1) Minnesota State (5)
2) Bemidji State (1)
3) Michigan Tech (2)
4) Northern Michigan
5) Bowling Green
6) Lake Superior State
7) Ferris State
8) St. Thomas

Expectations are low for us this year, primarily due to the fact that we're pretty young and unproven after losing so much experience and talent. I think we have a chance to be pretty good if the young guys step up and play pretty well. I guess we'll see.

Go Falcons!

Austen Swankler named Preseason Rookie of the Year, though.

Low expectations are good for this group. After last year's meltdown, the last thing the team needs this year is the attitude that they have to go out and atone for it. I think BG will be competitive enough to earn home ice in the first round.

I think positions 1, 7 & 8 are pretty much odds on bets.

Positions 2-6 are toss ups in my mind.

Not much is separating those 5 programs right now....just depends on which teams gel earlier then others as to who gets the 3 home ice spots come playoff time.

That being said I could still see the 5th and 6th teams winning a playoff series on the road.....so lots of parity in the middle of the league.

That poll sounds about right to me. I think we'll eventually edge out Northern, but get tripped by a proven Bemidji and a resurgent Tech. Mankato will probably win the league and might even keep on winning into April. Not sure what to make of Lake State, Ferris is yet to show signs of life, and hopefully St. Thomas doesn't pull an inaugural Vegas Knights season on us.

2-6, are pretty much interchangeable. The Tommies were in a good position to even threaten 6 a little bit, but shanked the hire. I see them beating out Ferris until Daniels decides to finally retire.
