Re: 2021-2022 Recruiting
Oof. OK, obviously some good stuff in there. But two giant red flags for me on Whitefoot.
1) He maintains a really high dribble in traffic. That might work in HS, but he'll be a turnover machine for us without a big change.
2) when you give him any time at all to think about it, his jumper comes from his chest as a push shot. He'll get that blocked constantly.

Not sure how much stock I'd put into that. We signed Colin Irish and David Jenkins in the 80s. Anthony Stacey and Keith McLeod were both ranked very highly. Also, Larranaga signed a kid out of Chicago named Eric Herring who was rated #43 in the country. He never showed up at BG but did play for Larranaga at George Mason

Late 70's/early 80's we had a lot of talented guys show up...Miday transferred in from Indiana, we signed a lot of high profile Ohio kids like Irish, Faine, Jenkins, Newbern etc...
The one that got away? Kevin "Deisel" Nash. Apparently, he was set to enroll but he tore up his knee and have to give the sport up. Would have been interesting to see him powerbomb Harvey Knuckles

I never knew that about Kevin Nash, but it's right there on his Wiki page. Crazy. Agreed re: 247. They are a great barometer for football but pretty poor for basketball. They miss well over half of the signings that even take place in the MAC. Verbal Commits is my favorite for basketball recruiting, though they don't have quite the decimal level ranking that 247 uses.BleedOrange wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:18 amNot sure how much stock I'd put into that. Somewhere in the archives...ok piles of crap I've accumulated...is a program from a HS all star game I went to between kids from Ohio and Michigan and those damn Russkies. Kevin Nash was there...but he was overshadowed by Magic and his buddy Jay Vincent. If I could teleport back a fw decades I would try to get that sucker signedjpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 12:06 pmnWo 4 Lifembenecke wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:47 amI never knew that about Kevin Nash, but it's right there on his Wiki page. On the bright side, both problems can be fixed.Diemilkweed wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 10:02 pm Oof. OK, obviously some good stuff in there. But two giant red flags for me on Whitefoot.

He'll be coming into a program that has strong guards. We won't depend on him as a freshman.

Re: 2021-2022 Recruiting
An article described him as an elite level defender. I will have to dig to try to find it. That's probably his role as a freshman. We don't seem to be absent of scorers.

Seeing the Faine name mentioned above reminded me that I saw the sad news that Bill Faine passed away last Saturday.

Wow...That would be pretty cool...I will see if I can locate it. Truth be told..I can't say for certain who actually played due to no shows except for Magic, Jy Vincent and a pre industrial accident John Flowers'
Flowers would have been a force in the MAC if not for that injury

I was just thinking about Flo the other day. Dude had a SWEET Camaro. The kind of thing you get when you are a prime athlete that some booster is supporting. I delivered newspapers to his apartment complex and went by it almost daily. I was 10 then.Flipper wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 12:21 pm Wow...That would be pretty cool...I will see if I can locate it. Was wondering why a back up in the MAC rated that beast.
Never heard of this industrial accident. What happened to him?

A forklift fell on him...can't imagine how painful and terrifying that must have been.

Re: 2021-2022 Recruiting
I saw Kevin Nash play at another All Star game that same year at U of D. I don't think Magic was there though. I had the program for a long time and may still have it somewhere. However, I do have a 1985 BCAM Michigan All Star program with both A boys, A Girls, BCD Boys and BCD Girls rosters. Roy Marble who played at Iowa was there, a guy named Dan Kennedy who played at U o f D and who had a wife later in life named Jodi who I worked with for a while, Mark Hughes (Michigan). Those guys played in the BCD early games. For the A game, it was Glen Rice, BJ Armstrong, John McIntyre (U of D), Loy Vaught (Michigan), JP Oosterbaan (U of M), Mark Brown (MSU and at the time the All Time Michigan Career Scoring leader at 34 PPG) and then a guy from Lansing Waverly by the name of John Smoltz (BB HOF).
