Here we go
Re: @Kent State (10/2)
Matt overthrows a wide open Broden on 4th down and this one’s over.
Kent State is going to win it, 27-20.
Great battle. We made a lot of mistakes today and still had a chance to win in the end. This program is making progress, that much is clear.
Beat Akron.

Re: @Kent State (10/2)
Just enough mistakes from the offense. Silver lining is they were in it until the very end. Much better than the 30 point blowouts the last two years.
BG may actually be a favorite next week against Akron.

This team is truly showcasing a program turning around! I know losses don't count for anything but going on the road and ready to play after a monumental win is HUGE! I love what's going on here!

Re: @Kent State (10/2)
They need to start getting some QB reps to Melton and/or Davis. McDonald missed a lot of throws today and he had at least 3 or 4 batted down at the line. That INT was dreadful and that last pass should have been there for the 1st down...

I think at this point, Loeffler is married to McDonald. Reminds me a lot of 2011-12 with Clawson and Schilz. Going to take something pretty damning to force Scot's hand.

Re: @Kent State (10/2)
Gah. Tough one.
Pretty much par for the course this year. Played pretty well all things considered. McDonald average. Some weird coaching decisions during the game that somehow didn’t hurt us too much. They’re playing hard each and every week which is the most promising thing.
McDonald is average, and I think more and more that’s why the team overall is average. He makes some good plays and then 3-4 bad ones. He’s not winning us any games with his arm but he’s also (for the most part) avoided some huge mistakes. Someone mentioned on here that it was disappointing one of the younger guys didn’t push him, but I think the decision to start him was totally intentional. He’s playing hard and is probably a good senior leader for this team. I don’t think he’s earned this spot from his play, necessarily, but I think behind the scenes he’s doing all the right things and Loeffler wants to reward that. That being said, it would not totally surprise me if we have better QB play next year. I don’t want to knock on the kid too much, but there have been multiple throws that just look bad - like not even a spiral. I think the throwing motion is contributing to that, as though he’s still compensating for an injury that either didn’t heal correctly or permanently altered the way he throws the ball. I find it hard to believe that one of the other guys can’t give us what he’s giving from a QB play standpoint.. but at the same time, I think letting this be his team is still the correct call.
You can argue whether or not that’s sending the wrong message, but I think it’s the right one. We’re overachieving buy a bowl game is still in reach and we’re going to be in every game.

Re: @Kent State (10/2)
I mentioned this above but I think it’s the right call with this roster. He’s playing really hard and I don’t know that the goal is to flat out win the MAC this year. It was more about progress, continuing to build, doing things the right way. I think Loeffer feels McDonald is the guy for that, and I think I’m okay with that.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 7:03 pmI think at this point, Loeffler is married to McDonald. I can't stand close loses, because amplify the mistakes you made that cost you the game in the end. We certainly had our chances.

It's cliché but losing is the best teacher. Better execution and making a handful of plays probably leads to a better outcome.

Lots of moral victories this season. We can at least see we are headed in a better direction.

That was a weird, scary formation Kent State was running on that punt, huh?
It stinks losing, but that was a real battle on the road against a team that just might win the MAC East.
Time to beat Akron.

Yeah. I don't get it. Replacing a very steady QB who has worked really hard. That's an idea someone has who just watched college football for one year and has never seen what truly terrible QB play does to a team.bgdodgeball4 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 7:11 pmI mentioned this above but I think it’s the right call with this roster. Re: @Kent State (10/2)
McDonald is limited and inconsistent...he also has a lengthy injury history. Not taking steps to prep a back up is foolish. I'm not suggesting you bench him...but you need to get the back up some snaps so he gets a feel for game action.
