I know I’m the oldest guy on this forum, but am I the ONLY one who cares that orange and brown seem to be fading from nearly all uniforms? In addition coaching gear etc seems to favor Black over brown.
I know I’m a traditionalist on this, and I seem to recall the “ push” toward black seemed to come from Nike when they had the contracts. But that shouldn’t be THEIR call to make IMO.
At any rate I guess I needed to vent a bit. Does anyone agree with me on this? I’m guessing most of you won’t recall that WMU’s colors changed about 25-30 yrs ago from BROWN and gold to their present scheme. I talked several years ago with one of their alums who was wearing his “ old” letterman’s jacket. Said they weren’t happy with change at that time.

The new hockey away sweaters appeared to be black but hard to tell since RPIs YouTube stream wasn't 1080p. I'm more a fan of the traditional uniform colors and layouts we just replaced. However, if the kids think they're super cool and some hot shot recruit signs his NLI because of the style, then I can live with it. However, I haven't heard of this happening.
Our teams should not be wearing black, but I know some do. I think the men's soccer team did recently. Black uniforms at BGSU annoy me every time I see them.
A story I heard years ago is that brown is tougher to get than other colors, so some of the non revenue sports opt for black. Whether that's still true, I do not know. I would think if we are working with a quality supplier, this should not really be an issue.
On hockey: The brown uniforms sometimes look black against the white ice. Thankfully, the hockey team seems to have embraced brown.

Up until fairly recently, BG did not have "unique to BG" jerseys and uniforms. Lettering was about the only change made to something that was already tooled up and produced (the Flyers style hockey jerseys in the 90s for example). The track suits and warm ups are simply a product already mass produced with a BG logo slapped on them. Not many options for a brown color there. Apparel sponsorships haven't always been a thing here.

Interestingly, our football uniforms seem to be off a template of some kind. (Anyone else notice how close they are to Toledo?)
But they are fantastic. I honestly think these football uniforms are the best we've ever had.
Does anyone know of an onshore place I could get one customized with my choice of a number? Does one of the stores in BG do this?
(I've seen an offshore source for these jerseys, but the lettering doesn't look quite dead on to me.)

We are a Nike school, so I would guess the Cut, lettering etc are not unique. Or the MAC patches sewn in.
Does Nike have a contract with the MAC to provide jerseys?
As to getting a jersey “customized “, I have a brown jersey with #61 topped with CLASS OF. Bought it many years ago at old place across from founders. Kent is the mgr.
He of course has reopened the store in shopping center across from stadium parking lots . While he couldn’t do the lettering himself, he took it to another store in BG who did the lettering.( I don’t know which store that was).
So this is the way i’d check .

He probably used Wizard Graphics downtown. That's who Woody referred us to when I got my game worn jersey in 95. Pretty sure they were who the University used at the time.

I don’t know for certain, but it is probably the entire MAC, not just BG that are Nike.
UT was UnderArmor at one point. All the directional Michigan schools were Adidas sponsored last I checked.
BTW….The apparel deal isn’t much more than discounted pricing. The department doesn’t even deal directly with Nike. It goes thru a licensed vendor. When Kingston signed the deal it was a worse deal than what BG had with Adidas, but he wanted to be a “Nike” school. It in fact cost the department quite a bit of money, because all the sports had to completely turnover their uniforms and apparel to Nike. Got the lowdown from a department member who had details at the time it was negotiated.

Kent is UnderArmor I believe. MAC contract could lead to purchasing power but not sure it’s a good idea, might all end up looking the same
