Re: Seen enough to decide
I’ve heard that story before I, think. I would like to ask him: when you were weighing transferring, sitting out and the unknown at WVU…. What were the reasons to go? It’s an interesting decision when you are a successful starter, particularly at QB…. When there is only 1 spot on a team.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Re: Seen enough to decide
Worth pointing out that we had a slash QB (Loy) here when SL rolled into town who was good enough to play for Auburn in 2020.
FWIW...barring a complete and total collapse, I don't think SL is getting canned this year. Given the vagaries of the xfer portal, I see no reason to just assume that we'll be better next year. I have zero faith in his ability to build the kind of quality teams we've seen here in the recent past. If he does so...I'll eat a bug

Agree. Highly unlikely he is getting canned, at least by this admin. If the wheels stay off the rest of the way, I see a fairly heavy exodus. I could see some of the more successful guys getting snatched and leaving…. I also see a lot of depth leaving, regardless.Flipper wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 12:59 pm Worth pointing out that we had a slash QB (Loy) here when SL rolled into town who was good enough to play for Auburn in 2020.

A heavy exodus at the end of the season? So you mean this old fashioned way of building a roster Loeffler preached from the beginning is outdated? The approach he scrapped this last off-season by taking in transfers and improving the defense. Wow, who would have thought Lloyd Carr coach speak could be outdated? Who could have seen Carl Pelini or Jim Hermann or Brian VanGorder being outdated? It's almost like Loeffler doesn't actually have a plan.
Re: Seen enough to decide
Let's put the whole "good enough to play for Auburn" thing in quotes here. He appeared in three games, mostly as a holder, and attempted two passes and had two rushes. He was brought in to provide some maturity in the QB room, not for his on-field play.

Re: Seen enough to decide
I think he is feeling pressure, big time. Self induced. NOT pressure of getting canned. He came here for one reason: turn it around and get the Big Job. UM. Same recruiting area, ex player, ex coach…… If he fails here, it’s assistant city for rest of his career. No way he wants to be a lifer here. Ego is too big. So you mean he wants to do the exact same thing that Dino Babers did? The guy he criticized after a 40 point ass kicking 5 years after Babers last was on the BGSU campus? Call me crazy, but I want the coach who wants to crush it and keep moving. That's MAC success. Sounds like Moose and Kingston Jr. got duped again.

I’m purely speculating that based on my observation of his personality, moves, and MO.

Anyone wanting to be a lifer at a MAC program has a screw loose, unless your name is Frank Solich. He wants to cash in on a big time job and call it a career.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 2:13 pmI think he is feeling pressure, big time. Self induced. NOT pressure of getting canned. There should be self-induced pressure. He gave the timeline of when this program is supposedly going to be successful. August 2022 is less than a year away and I think he's starting to see that there's more work that needs to be done than he anticipated.

Re: Seen enough to decide
roguewarrior....We had a HC here back in the 90's named Gary Blackney. Had an amazing first few years here. Won 2 straight bowls when that meant something and played OSU to a standstill before losing. He was getting talked up to be in line for the Ohio State job as John Cooper was struggling. So he didn't pursue other offers as strongly as he might have (there was a fam situation that played into that too). But then Cooper started to put it together and Blackney's efforts here seemed to wane as that OSU job got further and further away. Wound up leaving here on a down note.
My point is...Harbaugh seems to be putting it together. If he is...SL may want to think about another gig. Unless the Miami Dolphins job opens. apparently...Stephen Ross has a mile wide man crush on Harbaugh

Re: Seen enough to decide
Loeffler is to Michigan as Fickell is to Ohio State. It is the dream job. But not the only big job to consider. I'm really hoping some day Loeffler is a head coach at a bigger program because that means he did well here.
The notion of a MAC coach staying forever is not really a great notion because that means he's not good enough to get a better job but too good to get rid of. That is what I was afraid Mike Jinks was when we hired him. I overestimated.
But hey ... we could be stuck paying a coach a million plus who does not deliver championships and won't get hired away.

Re: Seen enough to decide
So to wrap a bow on this: A low percentage are looking to cut bait and can him this year and move on. About half have lost faith, but are not ready to move on yet. The majority feel next season is a must win season. So, how many wins next year are required, to get the fifth try? I would say 6 wins bowl eligible. Anything less is spinning wheels. When i say that out loud, I don’t think he is capable, but that is my opinion. What say you?

Winning record in MAC play. Should equate to 6 wins or more. Out of conference schedule with UCLA, EKU, Miss St., and Marshall will be pretty difficult. EKU should be a safe bet, so a minimum of 5-3 in MAC play gets it done. Anything less is a disappointment.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 4:32 pm So to wrap a bow on this: A low percentage are looking to cut bait and can him this year and move on. Agree. Six wins to make me feel like he has done the job. I think 5 wins will buy him another year for the administration, and 4 or less will result in him being shown the door.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 4:37 pmWinning record in MAC play. Re: Seen enough to decide
I think it's going to be interesting to see how the transfer portal plays into coaching movements. Not only are coaches looking for the next big job, but players can now look for the next big opportunity. Loeffler may have had the intentions of building the program, and sustaining that success for a couple years longer than most would (Meyer, Babers, etc) in hopes of being available for that dream job. Transfer portal changes that. Bring kids in, develop them for 2 years, they become a standout and hit the portal for a bigger payday. That is going to make the sustainability extremely difficult.MarkL wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 3:55 pm Loeffler is to Michigan as Fickell is to Ohio State. It is the dream job.
