Yup. If the last five games of 2021 are basically the same as the five games of 2020, there's going to be some major problems and probably a lot of calls for staff changes. Hell I've already called for a new OC. No doubt the team was far better the first half of the season than anytime last year. Just seems they've hit a wall. Coaches need to get past it.

Seems like they had a good offseason. But same story as past seasons where you really got to question what’s going on during the week.

Whose providing the leadership to force Loeffler to make staff changes?
The incompetence starts above Loeffler.

Could you imagine Moose trying to tell Loeffler he has to make staff changes? That's just funny.

MarkL I think your correct in that this will be the path they take, but I have zero faith any solution they come up with will make a difference.

BG is a great MAC football job. Facilities, campus, recruiting ground. No excuse for this program to suck like this absolutely none. You have a bad Head Coach and an incompetent AD. It’s not debatable anymore. It is a fact. They both should be gone as soon as possible.

Forcing failed coaches to change coordinators is for those lacking the stones to fire him. I wonder how many coaches were on the brink of getting canned, relinquished full control of their chosen play calling/scheme, and became success stories? Probably none….

It's about the only option when you run your budget at its limits. It costs money to fire people with contracts.

It's not like Moose has reached the level of a previous AD that was handed a check for the buyout amount of a coach, and turned it down.

I guess then the accepted practice of signing a coach in literally no demand, to 5 year contract you can’t really afford, isn’t very smart. As far as Loeffler changing coordinators, part of the problem is he has had 4 defensive coordinators already. The current’s previous job was coordinating the program that just scored 55 points on them, back when they were 0-12. The Lloyd Carr rolodex has to be getting shorter on options.

Moose will have trouble firing Loeffler because he and especially Kingston Jr went outside the search firm to hire Loeffler. If the BGSU baseball thing taught us anything, how Moose and Kingston Jr are viewed is what’s most important. Making sure they aren’t talked about in a negative way will be the most important detail.

Someone will hire Scott if we fire him...then we'll be off the hook (unless he somehow manages to find a P5 gig that pays less than us). He has a decent enough resume as an assistant. He just appears to be in over his head as a HC. It happens...

On a completely different subject...the Dr Pepper transfer portal commercial cracks me up
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Yeah, if Jinks & Seth Doege can land position jobs, Loeffler should as well

I haven't had a lot to say because I don't have a lot good to say right now.

Best case scenario: This is a wake up call, and this football team figures some things out right quick. My fear is all the promise we showed through the Minnesota game was smoke and mirrors, and maybe opposing MAC offenses have figured us out, and this is how it goes for the rest of the season. I really hope I'm wrong.

I am mindful of the fact that Bowling Green shocked Toledo two years ago. It would not shock me if we beat them again. Loeffler may have a few tricks up his sleeve for that game.

I'm also trying to bear in mind that this edition of Eastern Michigan football is better than we are used to. This program beat Illinois two years ago. They are middle of the pack (at least) in our conference right now.

With respect to Bob Moosbrugger and Terry Malone: I don't think the answer is for our athletic director to order his head football coach to make staffing changes based on on-the-field performance. What he can appropriately do, I think, is express concern about Saturday's game generally and the offense in particular. It should be clear that losing like that to Eastern Michigan is inconsistent with our goals for the football program (and, by implication, extended employment as head football coach). Moosbrugger should also be available as a sounding board if Loeffler needs one.

In any case: Coach Loeffler seems all in on this offensive scheme, and Terry Malone is an old timer who was an assistant for Moe Ankey and Gary Blackney. I don't expect big changes here. Either this will start working or it won't. I sure hope it does.

Five-year contracts are the norm for MAC football and FBS.
