Re: Portal 2021
Kilbane has been in the portal about 3 weeks. Has at least 4 MAC offers. I guess they see something BG doesn’t…… ugh
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
Re: Portal 2021
So when he transfers to Eastern Michigan what do the EMU coaches say to the 3rd year player for them that's been working hard, buying into the culture and just waiting for an opportunity? Your criticism of BG works both ways.
Like someone else said, all that's promised is competition. The best players will play and it's illogical to think a coach would play someone just because they're a transfer. To wit, we have several FBS transfers NOT playing this year.

Re: Portal 2021
That is naive. Do you think new coaches want to play “their players”? Therefore, players they did not bring in sit. Our best receiver sat for 3 years at Washington, because the new coach wanted to start “his players”. That kid hasn’t dropped a ball in practice at BG. Yes, when someone transfers out, wherever he may go, someone there is screwed. Take a good look around here…. Loeffler isn’t Lou Holtz…. He has only college coach thrown out of a game stapled to his resume. You think he isn’t making promises to get anyone he believes is an upgrade in here?? Do you quit your job before you have a better one lined up!!?Antimob wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 5:06 pm So when he transfers to Eastern Michigan what do the EMU coaches say to the 3rd year player for them that's been working hard, buying into the culture and just waiting for an opportunity? Re: Portal 2021
So you admit the practice you've been banging the drum criticizing BG and Loeffler for months over is actually practiced by every school in the country. What is your solution? Bury your head in the sand and refuse to accept any transfers? That is not tenable and you know it.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 7:22 pm Yes, when someone transfers out, wherever he may go, someone there is screwed.
In December Loeffler will sign his 4th recruiting class. Who exactly is left on the roster now that isn't "his guy" and will be threatened by competition from a newcomer next year? You also continue to assume a starting job is guaranteed sight unseen for all transfers when transfers from Michigan State and Minnesota do not occupy those roles this year.
The only way we're going to get better is by competition derived from increasing the talent level on the roster.

Re: Portal 2021
My only point, that applies to all schools, is the following: there are players promised spots, that competition does not apply. Some folks here think everything is a Rudy movie and all coaches are above board. I’ll quote it once more, from a BG coach said to me: “ you don’t know what the coaches promised him, or if he is getting paid”…… im not complaining, or suggesting this is exclusively why BG sucks ….. It’s just hard to read naive takes, and there are rare kids leaving because they are screwed by this fact. I think the lineman is one. Look at the o line and read between the lines?
One thing we can probably agree on: this portal will unravel all that is good about college football.

Re: Portal 2021
Let me take a guess....does it have anything to do with a VanGorder?
Re: Portal 2021
Agreed, plus the fact boosters can now openly buy players by enticing them with NIL money. It's the Wild West and the law of unintended consequences will soon kick in.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 7:44 am One thing we can probably agree on: this portal will unravel all that is good about college football.

Re: Portal 2021
I’ve heard whispers. Nothing from a player. Real or perceived, who knows? They certainly aren’t going to announce it. Kid left mid season along with any chance to get his stud brother from Ed’s.
Good programs somehow manage to keep most everyone somewhat happy, driven and engaged. This is a never ending process, that won’t magically end when “we get old”….
Can these guys manage the portal well, or create a disaster? I guess we will find out this time next year.

Re: Portal 2021
I'm a fan of the portal and one time transfer rule but not a fan of NIL and possible tampering going on with P5 schools reaching out to players before in portal. NCAA does have to get that under control!

Re: Portal 2021
Everyone imagines a Nike shoe contract. It could be a deal with the BG Chevy dealership for $1g per month, that no one knows about, and his picture is on the wall in the mechanics break room. I can only imagine the shady deals going on now, behind the scenes….. No more win one for the gipper, or moving stories of perseverance…your replacement is being purchased this off season, so I can keep my contract. And think about all the poor kids this year that Would have earned a scholarship somewhere , now forced to walk on at the mercy of these bozos.
Its a dirty place, college football. Only getting dirtier.

Myles Williamson is in the portal. I thought he had a ton of potential as a shutdown corner but he had trouble finding the field. Best of luck to him.

He could run and cover, but his biggest issue was making tackles. They considered moving him to WR at one point.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Portal 2021
Yet another OL is in the portal, this one is Chris Oliver, who signed as an OL, was moved to DL out of need, and was moved back to OL. He was the #2 LG in the preseason.
LB Aaron Washington is now also in the portal. He was one of BG's highly rated guys in the 2020 class.
