Candle returned 98% of his offensive output from 2020, and their defense had been one of the tops in the conference. He's been a major disappointment. Reminds me of Brandon riding on the coattails of Urban until it came time to do things on his own. He's definitely not living up to his contract.

Candle got a huge contract in order to cash in when a major program inevitably hires him away.

Four years later he's dead weight financially and on exactly zero hire lists.

He's got a good agent. Spun hard about winning the MAC in 2017. Too bad that was the worst the conference had ever been.

Crandle spent too much time over the summer trying to figure out how to beat ND and launch himself to the big payday all MAC coaches dream of. Now he is scrambling to save the season.

The entire MAC West division has essentially been turned on its head from what was expected. NIU was picked by everyone, and I mean everyone, to finish dead last in the West and with 3 games left they are currently in 1st. UT and WMU were picked in the top 3 by many (with some picking one of them to win the West) and are currently at the bottom with 3 games to go. Ball State was picked by some to repeat and are at least within striking distance. The East has panned out more predictably at this point, but only Akron and BG have been eliminated from contention. Everyone else is still alive and in it.
