Re: Coaching carousel
Al Golden is rumored to have a strong likelihood of getting the UConn job.

Re: Coaching carousel
Looks like it's done. 5 year deal, $800K per.

Re: Coaching carousel
Just curious if anyone knows the answer: How does a school like GSU afford $800K per year? They are only slightly larger than BG, a fraction of the endowment, same sized football stadium, public university. Is it all based on alumni support? I worked in college athletics for years and I still don't fully understand it. (I know I could ask the same question regarding a lot of schools, including UT, but this one is fresh on the mind)

Re: Coaching carousel
Don't know their situation. SBC TV deal with ESPN is worth about $500K annually to each school, MAC TV deal with ESPN about $600K per school. Their future schedule indicates they only have one money game the next two years (2022 at Nebraska, 2023 at Wisconsin). Getting the money from somewhere, no doubt.BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 3:18 pmJust curious if anyone knows the answer: How does a school like GSU afford $800K per year? Re: Coaching carousel
Fleck got a seven year extension today. Unbelievable considering the number of people calling for his head after the loss to BG.

Best of luck to Akron in trying to find someone who wants to try and fix that program.

Re: Coaching carousel
Arth is a victim to a new AD more than anything else. No worse mix in college sports than poor results and a new boss. The amount of turnover they've had at the top of the department is a huge issue. The guy who hired Arth canned Bowden, he left so now Arth gets canned by the new guy. Impossible to grow anything with a lack of continuity.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 11:07 amEspecially knowing you might get canned in just three years.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 9:57 am Best of luck to Akron in trying to find someone who wants to try and fix that program.

Re: Coaching carousel
To be fair Arth was a special kind of horrible.
2015: won a bowl game
2016: 5-7 (was 5-3 at one point but injuries mounted)
2017: Akron won the MAC east. Worst MAC ever though
2018: 4-8. Beat Northwestern who eventually won the Big Ten West
Bowden fired, Arth replaced
2019: 0-12
2020: 1-5. Only win was over BG, injured QB and depthless team
2021: 2-7. Wins over a bad FCS and a sleeping BG team
That's ... awful. Terrible job by Arth, crashing a program that had potential and recent success. He was Jinks level bad except more qualified for the job.

Re: Coaching carousel
Oh and if I had to take a guess at who Akron hires I'm saying Luke Getsy. I think he was the QB that won the MAC in 2005. He was speculated as a contender for the BG job in 2019. He wasn't ready yet IMO. Two years later, it makes some sense for Akron.

Re: Coaching carousel
Inside reports saying the new AD determined the Football program must be successful to stop the $$ bleeding from athletics. One person suggested he may have someone lined up, which makes sense to me regarding the timing…. Will be interesting. It doesn’t take long to determine if you have it or not…..
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
