Haven't seen his name mentioned yet. Seen Vince Kehres and some HS Coach with college experience, can't recall his name..

Chris Vannini from The Athletic mentioned Getsy and Frye but likely more of longshots. The same cast that were rumored for the BG job were brought up in his article as well. As rogue said, likely someone is lined up and it made sense to move on this now.

Not sure I would leave NFL QB Coach position for Akron but guess we will see..

Wonder if Arth is regretting not making the move last year to NFL now?

Vince Kehres would make sense. Two years as a MAC DC, then MAC HC in the same region where he was a legendary HC. That makes really good sense. And the fans would love it.

I met Tony Alford several times recruiting my son ( as a PWO at OSU). He is a good dude. Let’s save him for the BG job.

Might be too late next year. Feldman also said he was a finalist for Colorado State job and that might be open again soon.

Alford paid more real attention to my son as a PWO prospect at OSU , then any of the Mac teams, lower level teams and BG did , who signed him! Very honest. Great recruiter. Liked everything I saw him do at practices. Liked everything I saw him do at OSU game visits in the recruit room. You should see him with his RB’s…..Gosh, what a dream it would be to get him here!

All of those praises of Alford were also said of Mike Jinks. He was an awesome recruiter, he genuinely cared for all the kids he was talking to, he did everything right with the running backs, etc etc etc. Position coach to head coach is a HUGE jump and often does not translate. Sam Pittman at Arkansas is the only recent position coach to head coach jump I can think of that worked.

Hasn’t every single head college football coach in history been a position coach prior?

Exactly rogue. We are talking about position coach to Group of 5 HC. What was Meyer before coming to BG??

Normally there's a step or two between position coach and head coach. Loeffler was an OC for 8 years, Candle was an OC for 5 years, Lewis was an OC for 3 years, Doeren was a DC for I don't know how many years. Its rare to find someone from position coach to HC who is ready. Meyer is rare. McElwain was an OC at Alabama, then HC at Colorado State and then Florida.

Normally head coaches are prior either a lower head coach or a coordinator at same or higher level. Not always. Just normally. Deviate from that and you're more likely to find a Jinks than a Meyer.

I guess PJ Fleck, Thomas Hammock, Sean Lewis are all rare? I think more will turn out decent coaches unlike Jinks.
