Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Moose and Kingston Jr. fired Mike Jinks on October 14th, 2018. Fired him in season to get a jump start on finding his replacement. Jim McElwain was interested and basically available.
November 10th, 2018 BGSU wins 24-13 at Central Michigan
Scot Loeffler is 6-21 -- His BGSU teams have scored 30 points 3 times as a former offensive coordinator
Jim McElwain is 17-13 w/ MAC West Division Title in 2019 -- His Central Michigan teams have scored 30 points, 18 times as a former offensive coordinator.
Trust your eyes, Loeffler isn't going to the moon. He never was, He was never Clawson. Moose and Kingston Jr. totally botched this hire.

Are you saying that BG’s football program was even with Central Michigan football program in regards to culture, operations, recruiting et al in 2018?
No rational person can make that case.

Jury is still out on Loeffler...I have always been in his corner but after last night, I don't know now. Next year is the bell weather and if significant progress isn't made, time to look elsewhere.

Two games left this year. I expect them to be losses. As stated in previous threads, Loeffler made his timeline and I'll hold him to it. If the team isn't improved next season, it's time to move on.

Loeffler isn't Clawson. Central Michigan has the much better coach with a proven track record as a head coach. BG hired Tom Brady's friend.

Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
No...Clawson's first year was recruiting his players and using the left overs from Brandon's last decent class (2006...IIRC). His second year ws bad, third year better, 4th year saw results. But that was three years into HIS program and there was a visible improvement year over year...Loeffler has shown nothing other than two fluke wins and wins over FCS schools.
The same issues that beat us last year and the year before are still beating us. Does anyone really think we're suddenly going to make some kind of leap forward next year with this crew

Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Perhaps not...but this is his third year. I don't think it's unreasonable to argue that a guy with McElwain's experience and past success as a HC would have the program further along. Given the dumpster fire Jinks left, it seems that passing on guys with HC experience to take a flier on a middling career assistant was a poor decision.Rightupinthere wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:28 am Are you saying that BG’s football program was even with Central Michigan football program in regards to culture, operations, recruiting et al in 2018?

The time is now...it's a moot point in my view, as I am virtually certain that barring some major faux pas on the part of Loeffler...like taking to twitter to misgender someone...he will be back next year with the same crew and excusesjpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:32 am+1.Falconfreak90 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:30 am Jury is still out on Loeffler...I have always been in his corner but after last night, I don't know now. What really might doom this program is the idea that Loeffler and Clawson have anything in common. They couldn't be further from the same.

Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Unless the university can come up with over a million dollars to buy him out, it's not going to happen, and it's not realistic given the financial state of the athletic department. They've had to cut support staff for the hockey program this year just to try and save money. I doubt anyone is going to come forward either with a wad of cash.Flipper wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:47 amThe time is now...it's a moot point in my view, as I am virtually certain that barring some major faux pas on the part of Loeffler...like taking to twitter to misgender someone...he will be back next year with the same crew and excusesjpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:32 am+1.Falconfreak90 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:30 am Jury is still out on Loeffler...I have always been in his corner but after last night, I don't know now. The team needs to be competitive next year. Some of us will define that differently than others. For me, this means qualifying for a bowl game.Falconfreak90 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:30 am Jury is still out on Loeffler...I have always been in his corner but after last night, I don't know now. Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Would it cost us a million? IIRC...The Jinks buyout was considerably under the remaining value of his contract because he found another job. I'm sure Scott could find something under a Harbaugh in AA or Baltimorejpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:51 amUnless the university can come up with over a million dollars to buy him out, it's not going to happen, and it's not realistic given the financial state of the athletic department. Urban Meyer, Tom Brady, and Lloyd Carr could find the next Kingston Jr within an athletic department for Loeffler’s future employment. It’s been happening for a decade.

Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
University paid $375K to Jinks as part of an agreement. They were on the hook for over a million and still would have owed the difference between his total buyout and his USC salary. He kind of did the university of favor. Would Scot be willing to do that? I estimate his current buyout figure at about $1.137 million ($525K for 2022 & 2023, plus remaining salary owed for 2021).Flipper wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 11:27 amWould it cost us a million?
