Re: Incoming
What happened to being on schedule? I thought many of the posters on the board and Coach himself kept saying we're on schedule?
Oh, he realized it's year 4 and time to put up or shut up. Gotcha

Re: Incoming
I view it as two pronged.
1 - the kids he's brought in haven't flourished as much as expected, which he and his staff have ownership in.
2 - the new transfer rules have changed the landscape since he arrived, and he has to adjust his strategy. He can't be faulted for that.
I have a hard time believing there's enough portal talent out there to improve the program by 5-6 wins. Hope he's successful though because I don't think any of us have the patience to start this whole process over again.

It’s on schedule. It’s on schedule to be outdated like Ron English at Eastern Michigan.

Re: Incoming
My biggest fear is that we'll see a lot of attrition this year....a bunch of guys coming in via the portal and the excuse for losing next year will be that there's just too much new talent on hand...takes time to learn our schemes and such.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Re: Incoming
He has been brazenly telling the team that they will be trucking in an entire new O-Line. So, who among them will stay? I have a feeling that some of the other more successful players this year will bolt too…Let’s not forget we are losing our kicker, punter and long snapper. Also, he has kept the same antique strength coach from day 1, who’s methodologies are in tune with a good bounce while stretching and take a few salt tablets. He has injured more than a few. I suspect EVERY team in D1 is looking for an O-lineman or three….. good luck finding 5, IMHO. And you have really turned off the ones you have. So dumb. No way to build a culture or a desire to be a great teammate. Bottom line-I suspect off season will be zero sum gain.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
Re: Incoming
GOOD! He SHOULD be bringing in a new OL!!! In fact, that strategy is one year too late. We lost our entire starting OL this offseason (4 transfers out and 1 medical retirement) and we went out there this year with 4 frosh and 1 converted DL. It was a recipe for disaster. This should have been address as best it could last offseason, and it wasn't. And now look. The OL is without a doubt the unit on the team we must, must, MUST address this offseason. And by address, that doesn't mean more adding more freshmen. ANY coach in the country would do the same thing, If Loeffler didn't do this, he'd be a downright idiot. I'd love to see the guys we have stay as I think they could be solid down the road, and some have improved and could compete for spots even next season. But any person who watches us can see our OL issues have hampered us right out of the gate in week one and still do now. We're boys there right now going against men and it's showing up week after week.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 10:50 am He has been brazenly telling the team that they will be trucking in an entire new O-Line. That's my biggest worry every year nowadays. This is also partly why we keep spinning our wheels and can't gain any traction.

Not sure what the point is to threaten the players that you are going to replace them? Unless you are trying to run them off the team?
Maybe try coaching and developing the guys you have now and recruit the best guys you can, then next year you can have a combo of returning guys and transfers to contribute.

I have my reservations about Loeffler, but there’s a major difference between telling your team what needs have to be addressed, and what those players are running home and tell mommy and daddy. Miami’s head coach Chuck Martin touched on this exact kind of topic this week. I always listen to our opponents coach leading up to our game and even he, at a place where he’s been doing well and has won a championship recently and is in the running for another one this year, has to deal with this kind of stuff. He says even with their success and after their wins and everyone is feeling good about everything that you have people in the kids years including parents that are complaining about their playing time or telling them things that make them head down this route. It’s never ending and is a big part of why the transfer portal has become what it is.

You don’t know anything. Shockingly ignorant. I think you have watched Rudy too many times. Great sales job. You are all being replaced, now let’s see some effort!BGSU33 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 6:43 pmTommyG wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 6:18 pm Not sure what the point is to threaten the players that you are going to replace them? There is always going to be complaints about playing time.
The point is that telling the players that you think they suck and are bringing in players to replace them probably isn’t the best motivator. Unless your trying to free up scholarships and run guys off the team.
As the head coach if you are evaluating that you need to improve a position group by using transfer portal/JUCO than go ahead and do it. In the meantime…continue to coach the kids you have and help them improve.
Getting pissed and telling the players they are going to be replaced isn’t necessary. Just coach, recruit and the best guys will play.

Re: Incoming
This is an inflammatory way of describing this.
Loeffler has said he is going to look to the portal and that he will look for offensive linemen. He's been saying that nearly all season.
The players who aren't getting it done know who they are, I highly doubt that Loeffler is personally threatening players the way you are implying.

Well, it is. News flash: what said at press conferences is usually the opposite of what is said in practice, meetings and locker room.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 8:16 pmThis is an inflammatory way of describing this.

Loeffler 100% absolutely would say that.
