Norfolk State

Wasn't Norfolk one of the rail roads in Monopoly?

They are 4-0 but are terrible at defending teams that don't run offenses. They play right into us.

Nope. The 4 Monopoly are Reading, Short Line, Pennsylvania and B&O. 3 of the 4 were the names of real RRs but the Short Line was a made up name. All Aboard!!!!!!

I figure I'm the only one watching this one. Couldn't get to the game since kiddo has COVID and we're all quarantined.

Man this team...smh...

We were just doing laps around the concourse with another father and son. I was about to ask if that was you. Obviously not.

The laps got some of my son’s wiggles out. Based on the game, I didn’t miss much.

Not us tonight sadly. Supposed to be out of quarantine in time for next Sunday game.

Always fun to spend some time getting the energy out in the concourse.

My kid is always as interested in seeing anybody playing in the practice courts (from the observation window) as he is to watch the actual game!

This was as low as you can get for energy. In the first half we gave up second and third chances. When you shoot 30 percent to their 50 percent it’s a loser. This game was over by the 12 minute mark of the second half. The score got closer but the outcome was only slightly in doubt.

Yeah, I’m checked out now. Lots of decent players individually, but this is a terrible team. Things could change, but I’ll need to see a few wins in a row to tune back in.

I just gave up watching half way through the second half. This is the least watchable team BG has had since I started paying attention. Their shot selection is unbelievable.....the percentage of contested shots they take is just awful.

100% true.

Has anyone listened to post game interviews. Often I am surprised that coach actually sees our problems.

I typically only listen to the postgame presser on my way home from games, so I've only caught the interview after the Ohio Wesleyan game.

In that interview he praised Elsasser, who I thought was easily the worst player on the court for either team. He singled out Curtis for his tremendous passing, which I thought was odd on a night he had a ton of turnovers. He also talked about how they don't keep 5 guys together even in practice, instead rotating bodies around so everybody is used to playing with everybody else.

As for the shot selection, that's exactly the problem offensively. We look like the worst shooting team in history because we don't get open shots. We refuse to move at all without the ball instead settling for contested jumpers on seemingly every possession. We actually get good catch and shoot threes so rarely that I notice it when it does happen. And when it does, we actually CAN shoot.

This team badly needs Matheny back and they need for him to have taken the steps forward to being the man with the ball most of the time. Sadly I have a feeling this team is going to look a lot like the year Huger anointed Frye the best player and ran everything through him. That team didn't play better until everybody realized Turner was the better player. Better hope Matheny is more Turner than Frye or this season will be very long.

We quite simply don’t run an offense and don’t always play defense. Last night the guys were fired up from the pregame scuffle which gave them more energy in the first half but it wasn’t enough. We set a record for three point attempts taken when very few of them were finding the bottom of the net. That stat is all you need to know about our offense.

It was slightly concerning to me to get blown out like we did at OSU, and it was slightly more concerning to lose at home to Norfolk State, but it's VERY concerning to me that from what I've seen, this team doesn't really seem to like each other very much. I know Matheny, Matiss & Fields haven't been playing, & maybe we will get better when Matheny & Matiss return. But, I feel like the team culture is just not very good. There's a long way to go, but I have not yet seen anything that gives me hope about the 2021-22 Falcons.

Norfolk State got throttled today by Xavier 88-48. I think we are in for a long season. It appears we have too many individuals.
