In 2009 Cincinnati finished and undefeated season. Had Nebraska upset Texas in the Big 12 title game, which they nearly did, Cincinnati would have gone to the national championship game.

But then head coach Brian Kelly took off for Notre Dame. The team played uninspired in a bad loss to Florida, deflated after losing their coach following a historic season.

So you could imagine how terrified Cincinnati fans are right now. I seriously hope Fickell decides to stick around despite the temptation. His team would run through a wall for him, that wall being Georgia.

I've heard Mario Cristobal is a difficult / demanding boss. So Akron might be lucking themselves into a good hire of a guy looking to get out. And having a Big Ten championship as an OC one state over sure looks good, probably better than his messy tenure as a HC. This would be a good hire. And if he does well, move to the next stop fast.
