While it's true that Clawson did not have to deal with the xfer portal...one of the key to his building the program was keeping recruits in the program...not sure we can follow that template here

Following that template used to be the norm. Now it's the exception. Prior to a decade and change ago, schools would sign a class, redshirt as many of those guys as they could, and would have most of those guys for the next 4-5 years. That's hardly imaginable anymore. Not with just BG, but nationally. The writing was on the wall started back when they first made amendments to the grad transfer process. Then when the transfer portal started, it was game over for the way we all used to know it.

Verse was the CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year - he also has offers from a ton of other FBS programs
Hilaire had 71 receptions for 918 yards and 9 TDs this past season
Frazier doesn't appear to have any stats for 2021

I think the road into most of the guys you get comes through a coach you know where they are coming from, believing their assessment, and greasing the skids for you. You hope their assement is right, in cases where there may be little or no film. Difficult waters to navigate for anyone.

This is fair.

I saw a photo of Loeffler doing a home visit with Hilaire, so I have faith the staff is out there recruiting their tails off and doing their due diligence. This is a really crucial offseason for the program.

Easiest way to get players from the portal is to already have a relationship with them. If not directly with them, with someone close to them. The hockey coach addressed this at the beginning of their season (conversations with the player's coach, a brother was committed here for next season, etc). While each sport has its differences in recruiting, they aren't exactly unique.

Given Frazier's size, they may have other ideas for him if he commits. 6'5", 250.

Jadeveon Clowney is 6'5 255. If the goal for Frazier is something other than TE, I'd suggest DE.
