vs. Oakland (12/7)
Re: vs. Oakland (12/7)
The scouting report had nothing to do with O'Neals struggles. He's going to struggle against any zone. His game is out muscling dudes 1 on 1 on the block. That simply doesn't translate against a zone. Matiss was good but still needs his minutes limited as he gets up to speed.
The story of the night though was Mills and Turner flat out played their career best games in orange and brown. Chandler decided he wasn't losing tonight and it was awesome.
Plowden VERY NOTICEABLY limping after the game. Didn't seem himself tonight despite posting 16/9 stat line. Hope he's able to get back to 100% as we move into MAC season but tonight proved we are deep enough to win tough games against good opponents even when our usual top options aren't on their game.

Tonight's game was very intense with both teams going all out. It was a fun game to watch. We need to give this team time to gel. There is talent here.

Re: vs. Oakland (12/7)
Elsasser was terrible at times and gave up that final layup that missed but 9 minutes for you walk on who is never supposed to play.. That's crazy. His +/- was 8.
Joe Reece is stud.
There is an obvious 3 F rotation of Plowden-Diggs and Turner that has shaped up. Being limited at Guard (which I never would have believed could happen) this is great. If Turner can emerge....and I have doubts he can but he has always been very active and has had nice touch around the basket, he starts at PF the next two years and is a very good player next to Reece and that's very good for us.
1 Metheny-Mills
2 Curtis-Fulcher-Gordon-Elsasser
3 Plowden-Diggs-Young
4 Turner-Kulackovkis
5 Reece-O'Neal-Etim

Does anyone know why almost all the digital boards inside the Stroh don't work? Fans might need to keep the score themselves soon.

I could be wrong but I think he moves about as well as Diggs does. He's also longer and a better athlete than Diggs.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:33 amI don't think he moves well enough for that. Pretty solid 4 though.
At this point I'm scared every time Diggs has the ball and isn't just shooting a 3. His ball handling/passing/vision are just not good right now.

Re: vs. Oakland (12/7)
I am all for putting him on the bench, as long as that doesn't fracture the team by benching a guy who came back for his 5th year. It shouldn't but you never know the chemistry from the outside. I have been clamoring for more and more Turner since his freshman year. I would love to start him at PF or with Plowden (it doesn't matter to me who is the PF) because you have 2 more years of him. I see him with a pretty concrete floor and low ceiling. I think last night was an anomaly. But if he can go off like that once every 5-6 games that's important. I see him as a very active, smart 4 who will have athletic limitations but will run the floor, dive for loose balls, can score from anywhere on the floor. Won't be a star but you will be glad he is in the rotation.hammb wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 10:26 amI could be wrong but I think he moves about as well as Diggs does. Re: vs. Oakland (12/7)
You are also looking next year at being a bit heavy at the 4 and 5 so he can provide versatility at the 3.
1 Metheny-Mills-Lightfoot
2 Fulcher-Fields
3 Curtis-Young
4 Turner-Kulackovkis
5 Reece-O'Neal-Etim
Regardless I love that he has carved out a role in the rotation.

Re: vs. Oakland (12/7)
Plowden and young play the 4 not the 3. Matiss is mainly playing the 5 and I can't see him playing a lot with reese or O'Neal.
The big scoreboard has the box score now so the smaller one above the concourse isn't as important although it should still work

Re: vs. Oakland (12/7)
Plowden and Young are both easily athletic enough to guard the 3 and move well enough on offense to play the 3. They only play the 4 because that happens to be what our personnel dictates.
Matiss has played in 3 games so far and played more than O'Neal in 2 of the 3. He can play with Reese and O'Neal because they are very different players. Matiss is a stretch 4/5 and the other two are bangers.

He played at Detroit Renaissance which is most often one of the best basketball schools in the state (Juice was also a Renaissance grad) and I think he was player of the year in the Public School League but definitely First Team All State Detroit Free Press, and 3rd Place for Mr. Basketball. Globe, I have agreed with your initial thoughts on Turner and until this year he has been buried down the roster. He looks bulked up and capable of much more.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:33 am

The big video board is new. The strip board is in the process of being replaced. Both items were mentioned at the winter Falcon Club Luncheon on Monday.

Re: vs. Oakland (12/7)
And word on what's going on with Curtis? This is where I really miss the coverage we used to have from guys like John and Nick in recent years. They kept us all informed, and their behind-the-scenes insight on things like this was extremely valuable. And despite all the platforms that can now be utilized to inform fans, alums, etc., it seems like there's a big disconnect with our athletic programs and those parties from that standpoint. The recaps, articles and postgame pressers hardly tell you anything more than what your own two eyes do when watching a game. I really, really miss the tweets and articles those guys used to provide with the ins and outs of the teams and seasons. Instead, we're left to guess things like why a starter wasn't even in the building. That would have been one of the first things they would have mentioned.
GO BG!!!
