Wow.

I'll stand corrected, but: I think maybe he'd have two seasons left after sitting out for a year (assuming a COVID bonus year)? So this is probably planning for life after McDonald?

No coach yet; At least players not told of one.

Should be noted Buffalo has also offered. I'm sure we can play the highlights from this year's game for him...

Makes sense given that he's from western New York.

Seeing the transfers down a level make me think we weren’t losing impact players, but also makes me wonder what the staff saw during recruiting.

Right. Definitely goes both ways.

If they can’t play at this level, that’s not that big of a loss in terms of guys that can actually contribute. But it also calls into question the staff’s ability to evaluate talent.

I guess you can partially give them a pass because last year was so messed up with recruiting being done virtually and whatnot. But also, every other staff in America dealt with the same thing. It’s something that needs to be fixed immediately, and I hope it has been with this 2022 class and beyond.

Oliver had an offer from Pitt, and they said they would scholarship him later. He didn’t believe them, and took the Duquesne scholarship.

I wouldn't call a free ride to a school like Duquense a step down. GVS has a history of landing D1 xfers.

I hope to hell the "big guys" Loeffler has can stick here and play because we've lost a lot more than 2 or 3 OL over the past year and a half and he didn't sign any HS kids to fill the pipeline.

Without speaking to each of these guys, I would guess their decision to transfer down was based mainly on getting more playing time. They weren’t getting it at BG and had they transferred laterally, they’d have like found themselves in a similar situation as they did here. If these guys were proven starters and left it would have hurt BG. But these guys weren’t that.

I feel this could be a case of a win-win all the way around. These kids can hopefully get what they’re looking for at new schools and BG can utilize their places and offers towards new kids who do want to be here and can help now.

I don’t think it’s fair to say these kids didn’t live up to their potential or that the coaches missed on them - because it’s still too early to tell. That’s a question that will be better answered in about two years. I think the coaches recruited these guys who they felt could help down the road when they developed, and these kids were ready to play now and didn’t want to go that route. In the end, in relation to these guys, I think everyone will come out ahead in the end.
GO BG!!!

Add OL Marcelo Mendiola, 6'3" from Cincinnati. Was a three-star recruit.

UC lists him as 330 pounds on their roster. Did we have any starting OL even close to that big this year?!

Also, he comes from Mount Carmel HS - where Jalen Grant is from. That should be a good add in terms of chemistry.

With him redshirting in 2019 and 2020 not counting towards anyone’s eligibility, is he a 4th year sophomore with 3 years (counting 2022) remaining on his clock?
