vs. Carlow (12/21)

Post by mbenecke »

Following a home win over Robert Morris and riding a 4-game win streak, our Falcons (6-4) return to the Stroh Center once again to take on the Carlow Celtics (1-11). The game will tip off at noon on Tuesday, 12/21, and while there currently is no stream available, I’ll try to remember to post that information when I see it.

I feel like you always have to respect your opponent, but this should realistically be another showcase game for the whole roster to get some run time in. I really don’t like that it’s a noon start on a Tuesday, though - pretty inconvenient for a lot of fans to follow.

Regardless, let’s get a win and head into Christmas break and conference play with some real momentum. Go Falcons! Beat Carlow!

I don't get why the program feels the need to schedule opponents of this low caliber.

BG will finish 3-0 in December over Pittsburgh colleges and universities. Carlow is a very bad basketball program. They lost by 90 to James Madison. This game could be a 120- 35 type score.

Huger has scheduled this way since he was hired. Why change it when it gets you raises and contract extensions? BG strength of schedule before this game sits around 310th in D1. This is just a worse version of Lourdes College, Notre Dame (OH) , or Lake Erie College. The saddest part is when the social media team goes bonkers over scoring 100 points against someone like this.

Scheduling Carlow is stupid.
Scheduling a game at noon on a Tuesday is stupid.

They'll probably call it fan appreciation day or some bullshit to hit the stupid trifecta.

Whatever, beat their asses, nobody will see it (so glad I bought tickets for it!), have a nice holiday and get ready for Akron.

We scheduled Carlow? Was Fredo already booked?

Carlow is 1-11. below are the scores. They have been blown out in most losses.

People should not have to pay to watch this. You could find 12 guys on campus to give BG a better game.

The game is at noon on a Tuesday.

Most of us are paying to NOT watch it.

Unsure if that is better or worse.

They pull this bullshit every year with the scheduling. Every year I say, "man I may just skip season tickets this year, life is hectic, etc." Then my kid asks if we're going to the basketball games, and I know I'd miss it like hell if I didn't, and here we are. This is BG Athletics to a "T". Many businesses would treat their loyal customers better to keep them loyal. BG treats us like we'll keep paying no matter what so why should they care....and they're largely right :(

They should refund your money for that game. Obviously a person who works cannot reasonably attend that game, thus you shouldn’t have to pay for it.
I can only imagine the response you’d get from the ticket office asking for a refund…”wait what? You want a refund?,
I have to get a manager. I’m sorry our manager says our system isn’t able to do that. Bye”

They should tell Carlow to stay home. This game isn’t worth a .00000001% chance of a MAC game needing to be forfeited because it was played.

I work on campus. I asked my supervisor if I could take a couple hours to go to the game. The students are gone, so I'm taking some personal time to go to the game. My wife and son are busy, so it's just me. I'm thinking I may invite my brother and his girlfriend to use up my tickets.

This game is going to be a joke. Carlow University...I've never heard of it. I had to look it up. NAIA school. Why are we playing them? Was Heidelberg University not available (they're at least NCAA, albeit Division III).

(I understand a game against Carlow is the most pointless and embarassing game to have on our schedule. Plz just remember how much better the team has looked the past few weeks and how excited we should be to be hitting somewhat of a stride going into MAC play)

Personal questions for those that might know! The January 8th game at Buffalo looks like a double header for the men and women's team. Not interested in the Women's game but has anyone been looking into tickets for this one? Do you have to buy 1 ticket that counts for each game or are they individual game tickets? Would you feel comfortable purchasing through like a seatgeek/ticketmaster type place or go straight to the UB or BG ticket office given the somewhat confusing double header part of the ticket buying process?

Also, for away games, do you get your tickets from the university or just buy through one of these third party ticket outlets? I've always gone third party but always regret not having seats in the away BG section. Where do i find tickets to sit with other BG fans? Always wondered but never bothered to look into it really.

I believe if you want to sit in the "BG Section" on the road games you can go through the BG ticket office, but I do not know how many tickets the opponents give our dept to sell. And after a certain point (not sure when) those unsold tickets revert back to the home team to sell. You should be able to call the ticket office for Buffalo and ask to sit in the BG section and they should be able to help (or at least let you know if the BG office still has the tickets).

I'm not familiar with BUffalo, one of the MAC arenas I've never visited, but I suppose if you knew where they seated the visitors you could find tickets on a reseller site, but for MAC games I've never gone that route. There just aren't many MAC arenas that sell out so I've always gone through the ticket offices. The caveat, though, is that as I think about it my MAC road game days are long enough in the past that those reseller sites didn't really exist back then...damn getting married and having a kid changes your life!

No ESPN+ cast of the game? ESPN sets the probability of a BGSU win at 99.8%
