Re: News
That's a goofy argument given the MAC's inability to garner interest within it's own footprint...let alone nationally.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 9:14 pmYou are stretching here, by the way. If you move the measuring stick in either direction, football has been more successful. Football has had more championships during the past decade, the past two decades, the past three decades, etc.
Speaking of ROI, has the baseball team ever once been on national television?
Is BG football on "National TV'...really?

Sure. This past season included an appearance on the SEC Network and multiple appearances on ESPNU and the CBS Sports Network. When the team becomes competitive again, we can expect return to occasional appearances on ESPN2 or ESPN.

Re: News
The only thing you've demonstrated here is that you resort to petty name calling when you can't win an argument.

Schad…I’d spell out my point in more detail but you aren’t smart enough to understand it. You literally are the most uninformed person on this board…

Re: News
No...SEC network is a pay channel with 70 million subscribers...there are 121 million TV households in the US. ESPNU is in about 51 million TV HH and CBS Sports...the last published data on that I could find said 61 million as of six years ago.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 2:04 pmSure. None of those are "national" in the same sense as a traditional broadcast network or even Fox Sports or ESPN. Not sure how cablecasts becomes a measure of success...or even a measure of ROI. I suspect no one is watching because....why would they?

Re: News
By your argument, fold the program. Hell, fold the whole damn Athletic Department. None of the programs have done much of anything nationally in 30 years or more. Fold the whole damn thing and walk away.

Re: News
That wasn’t my argument but I certainly think there should be an overhaul of who is running the department and how some things are being run. IMO funding the baseball program should be more important than upgrading football facilities that aren’t in need of upgrades. If a football donor is ponying up for it, then they can do what they want. Not asking you, Schad, or anyone else to agree with me.
Re: News
I will assume you know who Enrico Pellazzo is and that was tongue in cheek, so I will respond in kind. I submit that it is in line because Pellazzo's version of The Star Spangled Banner was hardly up to today's standards that singers should be aspiring to.Flipper wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 4:05 pmNo...it isn't. Franco Colombo was a 1970's bodybuilder..Beaker wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 12:42 pmThat's right in line with the BGSU men's chorus director having posters of Enrico Pallazzo in his office.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 1:45 pmI wish we would. Our guy still has his Franco Columbo workout taped to the wall.
There have been a number of advances in the area of strength and condition and nutrition since his heyday....suggesting that the current guy is stuck in the past for utilizing outmoded methods is nothing like a chorus director having a picture of an admired singer
Re: News
I'm not saying I disagree with your sentiment here re: funding baseball and/or teams that have proven success (I think both soccer programs deserve WAY more funding with their recent seasons), but as someone who spent a few godforsaken years working in collegiate athletics (and still does, a bit more peripherally now, though, thank god) I can tell you that this just isn't how it works, regardless of who is running the program. When it comes to internal priority funding, football and basketball are king, hockey is prince (here, at least), and the rest are peasants who will always be more reliant on restricted funds from alumni. Basically, for the other sports to upgrade their funding, a few boosters need to write some big ass checks without the strings attached that you had with the Haas money. It sucks, but it's how it will always be.TommyG wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 9:04 pmThat wasn’t my argument but I certainly think there should be an overhaul of who is running the department and how some things are being run. And when a program not football or basketball is bringing in money, that money will be moved and redistributed to build football and basketball, until that program has deteriorated due to lack of investment and is threatened to be cut.BillyLP wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 10:32 am

Re: News
And in the case of BG even the basketball team bringing its own money isn't enough to help it. It's the one sport where the MAC can actually make money by making and succeeding in the NCAA tournament. It's the one sport where BG has largely funded a good chunk of it with private donations (thank you Mr. Frack). Yet, that money still isn't used to pursue excellence in basketball.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 11:10 amAnd when a program not football or basketball is bringing in money, that money will be moved and redistributed to build football and basketball, until that program has deteriorated due to lack of investment and is threatened to be cut.BillyLP wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 10:32 am
