Ohio 1/11

Post by BPardonMyTake »

Falcons getting 9 on the road vs OU. They are very good, I am not sure if we are good.

Would love to see Turner in the starting lineup tonight to give OU a completely different look and maybe catch them off guard. I would also be pleased if Fulcher starts. I'd put half my next paycheck on Mills starting next to Curtis, however.

Let's go!

Worth noting that OU just added Dayton transfer Luke Frazier at the semester. He was recruited by BG and most of the MAC and Horizon out of high school. Opted for Dayton and didn't get any playing time. Could make an immediate impact as a shooter.

Jesus we are playing undisciplined ball.

Reece 2 fouls, O'neal just got a cheap, stupid one on a rebound. I have seen two blatant reach ins by our guards only 1 of which got called.

But hey, Mills actually hit a 3.

Plowden dunk!

But if OU was hitting their open shots, we'd be down 15. We are getting lucky that they are missing good looks.

Plowden free throws. Hits both cleanly.

It's just possible that they do not have anyone who can deal with Plowden.

Another Mills 3!

And the announcers JUST figured out that it is MILLS and not MILES.

Drew 2 offensive fouls in a row off of them.

Cam Young on the effort put back to tie the game!

Hung in there but you're very right, they bricked at least 6-7 completely wide open uncontested threes. Made em work a bit on inside looks, but the threes they missed were all wide ass open.

I don’t know how we’re in this game. OU missing all kinds of open looks, killing us on the boards, and Reece basically didn’t play all half with foul trouble. At the same time, refs missed a blatant travel that lead to a bucket, gabe lost a bunny, and we lost a 50/50 ball that would have been an easy layup. Bottom 5 players minutes wise played majority of that half. I feel like we should be down 20 but also up like 7-8 at the same time.

Good synopsis. Crazy weird half of basketball where all I can say is neither team played real well.

Nice to see Reece back in the game after that nasty spill in the missed dunk.

Even Turner is taking, and making, shots from well outside the arc.

We really have been working on some of this stuff.

I have NEVER seen a BG player make the progress that Plowden has, and he's still improving during this season. Becoming something closer to a true #1 option. His freshman year I never would have predicted that for him.

Coach clearly has many flaws, but none of our coaches in the 30+ years prior to him got this kind of progress out of our individual players.

That was a really nice little action we ran to get Kula an open 3 in the corner. Double PnR, drive on the 2nd one, Kula has leaked out to the corner after setting the first one. Missed the shot, but he had time to do it in rhythm.

OU’s just a better team. We hung around long enough but they’re just better. Not sure if Reece would have been the difference between a win or loss but OU just eventually started hitting the shots they were missing early. Defensive effort wasn’t there. They went right at Reece every time he was on the floor yet we continued to leave him on an island with no help defense. All they did was drive/ kick or let Sears /carter go to work one on one and we couldn’t stop either, even if they didn’t shoot lights out. Sears is 6’ nothing and grabbed an offensive board/ layed it back up in traffic with no problem what so ever. Kinda told the story of the game IMO.

I will say i was wrong about Mills tonight. He hit some big shots and took care of the ball. I thought O’Neal filled in nicely for Reece for the most part too. Just an odd game, which seems to be a reoccurring theme.

Ohio didn’t play well and that game was winnable. Left the starters on the bench too long in the stretch where Ohio took the lead out to 9. Had a rag tag lineup in too long. Looks like a 7 or 8 seed to me.
