Rivals recruiting ratings
Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
Not quoting the troll.
Babers won big because he had big talent. Loeffler finally has his own talent in place AND they're not all freshmen anymore. If you're trying to compare Babers' results with Loeffler's with no context of the embarrassing disaster of a tenure in between then you're just trying to be manipulative. And dishonest.

Loeffler had the worst season in BGSU football history because Jinks and because he can’t coach. It isn’t 1978, rebuilds happen faster than ever.

Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
Schadenfraud you want to bet on whether BGSU goes .500 in 2022?

Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
We should have been better than we were last year. The reasons we weren't were strictly under the control of the coach (OL, QB) If we fail again this year, it will be the fault of the coach. I don't see us hitting .500. I don't think hitting.500 would be a cause for celebration. 8-4? OK...that would be acceptable...that gives you room to be 2-2 OOC and then 6-2 in the MAC...those aren't unreasonable numbers.
I don't think there's a hope in hell of hitting them....

Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
I don’t think you can compare anything to 2020 as a measurement. Covid, missing coaches, cancelled games…. I believe it was tanked to a degree, as well. I would use 2019 numbers to 2021. In the end, you better improve from the worst of all time.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
How do you get to dismiss 2020? Every other MAC team that beat the s**t out of BG dealt with Covid. Akron didn’t seem to give its’ fired coach the chance to dismiss 2020 even when he smashed BG. They fired his ass.
But after we dismiss 2020, let’s use the disaster of 2020 as a baseline to convince ourselves of gigantic improvement. Mathematically it had to improve.
You know what helped the most in 2021? Buffalo and Ohio lost coaches and made bad coaching hires.

I don’t mean to dismiss the outcome. I mean dismiss it as a measurement of improvement for 2021. It certainly stands on Loefflers resume.guest44 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 11:25 am How do you get to dismiss 2020? Every other MAC team that beat the s**t out of BG dealt with Covid. Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
I think...in year 4...we are past the point of looking for improvement. In year 4 you want to see results..those results will be compared to what other coaches did with their teams in place

Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
If you want a fair comparable then look at Clawson in 2012. Fourth year, albeit his third year of rebuilding given the bowl game in 2009, but it stands as a good measuring stick. Went 6-2 in conference play, 8-4 overall, had a game to the wire against a very good Kent State team, played Florida tough in Gainesville. Lost in the Military Bowl to San Jose St.
Suffice to say that SL undoubtedly needs a winning season to justify keeping his job. Not sure if 6-6 is enough but getting to a meaningless bowl game might be enough for the athletic department to say he deserves the final year of his deal...

This is a good starting point for this conversation, but two big caveats:jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 1:56 pmIf you want a fair comparable then look at Clawson in 2012. 1. The program was in far worse shape when Loeffler took over than when Clawson took over. Loeffler has been climbing out of a much deeper hole.
2. Clawson did not have a COVID year early in his reign. Some here dismiss the importance of that, but I think it matters. Just as Loeffler was getting his own players in the door and was starting to rebuild a football culture that was severely broken, most of spring practice was canceled. That was a big loss for Bowling Green. More mature football programs with more established cultures -- which is to say, most of the rest of the MAC -- could withstand that much more easily than could Bowling Green given the point BGSU was on the rebuilding curve.
Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
1) Excuse
2) Poor Bowling Green. More excuses. Akron didn't use those same excuses.
Loeffler isn't Clawson. If he were, he would have been a head coach long before Bowling Green.

Re: Rivals recruiting ratings
Apart from a decent group left over from Brandon's last good recruiting class...Clawson had jack to work with...in fact the team lost scholarships to the NCAA because of it's piss poor academic performance. The cupboard was every bit as bare as what Loeffler had.
Everybody had covid...everybody...it's not like BGSU was singled out by the NCAA. The thing that has hampered Loeffler is his shitty roster construction and faith in a mediocre for the MAC (at best) QB.
At least we lead the MAC in number of TE's on scholarship
